If you like goofy videos, then this is the post for you! First off here’s a recent product review for YMX by Yellowman’s fantabulous tank tops – they sent me one for review and I darn near immediately ordered more. These will be lifesavers for this upcoming terribly hot Florida summer… besides – check out the cool prints and designs on these things! Workout wear that’s a little different is especially good for those of us whose “team sports involvement” was a relatively short stint in the high school Chess Team 🙂 Anyhow – check out the review page – I talk a little about the shirt in the video, and reenact the best scene in the 2008 version of Death Race. Its all so very daring! You’ll also see a picture of the other shirt I ordered which will surprise you with its colorfulness.
In other news, due to inclimate weather, we held class at ECMAS‘s fabulous little dojo. Quite frankly, I’d be ok with more rain because that’s such a great place – good people, and the shop has a lot of nifty things too. Books, martial arts gear etc. The kettlebell intro workshop a few weekends ago was a total success and we’ll be doing that again VERY soon. Besides, they also have swords—gotta have swords. This is also where I’m taking private lessons in Systema with Instructor David Orman (highly recommended). Today’s workout was relatively simple since we didn’t want to cart a ton of kettlebells down there, and because there are already some kettlebells on site. Here’s what we did:
Warmed up with Primal Move then:
10 kettlebell deadlifts – then traveling “inchworms” to the other side of the room (start standing walk with your hands out to a push up position, do a push up, then jump your feet forward before standing up again). Rest was the walk back to the kettlebells then repeat. We did this three times
We did a variation of the following circuit, resting extra if necessary:
- 20 2-hand kettlebell swings
- Count to 30 crab toe touches
- 20 2-hand kettlebell swings
- 10 kettlebell rows per side
- 20 2-hand kettlebell swings
- 20 alternating backwards lunges (kettlebell held in front at chest)
- 20 2-hand kettlebell swings
- 10 kettlebell goblet squats
- Rest/water/wandering around if necessary
- 15 2-hand kettlebell swings
- Count to 20 crab toe touches
- 15 2-hand kettlebell swings
- 8 kettlebell rows per side
- 15 2-hand kettlebell swings
- 16 alternating backwards lunges with kettlebell
- 15 2-hand kettlebell swings
- 10 kettlebell goblet squats
- Rest/water/etc
- 10 2-hand kettlebell swings
- 10 crab toe touches
- 10 2-hand kettlebell swings
- 5 kettlebell rows per side
- 10 2-hand kettlebell swings
- 12 alternating backwards lunges with kettlebell
- 10 2-hand kettlebell swings
- 10 kettlebell goblet squats
We then played with some various ab exercises and challenges before finishing up with the reverse variation of the Primal Move Evaluation.
Since they were doing the working out, afterwards had plenty of energy and was curious about the odd sized random kettlebell at the dojo – the heaviest I’ve ever attempted to press is 24kg (53lbs), and this thing said it was 55lbs… later we found out its actually 57+lbs. Here’s what happened (well, what happened after I tried it and was able to press it on either side before getting the camera….. generally speaking you’ll always see the 2nd or 3rd set from me oh well.)
While these are certainly not the prettiest presses I’ve ever done… that side lean has GOT to be shored up a bit for instance, I’m happy to get it overhead as it shows that the 28kg press isn’t really THAT much of a pipe dream. We’ll see. 🙂
