Outdoor Deviled Eggs “How To” Video, Active Rest and Planning for 2015

January 1, 2015 By Adrienne Harvey Leave a Comment

Outdoor Deviled Eggs

After writing a short blog post for the PCC Blog on active rest last week, I’ve made a concerted effort to include more of it in my week as I ramp up training towards making an audition video for American Ninja Warrior AND helping to lead the PCC Workshop in Encinitas later next month. The weather was really nice yesterday too, so I packed up a couple things and with the excuse of also making a how-to video, headed out to a favorite park for a few hours.

Ended up being a very good thing, as on Sundays that park doesn’t seem to have any loud bouncy-house type parties going on.  This was especially cool for a couple of reasons, the first and most obvious was me and the surrounding wildlife were spared from hearing the most annoying top 40 tunes from the past 40 years…

Wildlife is apparently not bothered at all by slacklining and my entire “mobile office” because in the course of the afternoon, the area was visited by a woodpecker, I saw a hawk swoop down only 50 feet away and snatch up a furry little snack, accidentally touched a big rubbery tree frog when finishing a slackline walk, and observed a gopher tortoise from a safe distance too (they’re legally protected as a “Threatened Species” in Florida).  The park had sectioned of an area of native plants and he had been burrowing right in the middle of it!  I’d call that a success.

Anyway, if you want to see how to make simple deviled eggs in an outdoor picnic or camping situation then watch the silly video below – there’s also a little bit of speaking in squirrel, bad table manners, eating cayenne pepper and hot sauce, and drinking San Pellegrino straight from the bottle because of it.  So if you like my unintentional “somewhat humor” then defininitely watch:

Theoretically you could also use this kind of method to make fresh deviled eggs in a work breakroom too (just wash their silverware… don’t be “that person”!)

While I’m not a fan of New Year’s resolutions, it is a good time for reflection and thinking about what to improve for the next year, it’s also a fun time to start fresh.  For instance, I’m starting fresh in a new Convict Conditioning Ultimate Bodyweight Training Log for 2015.  While it SAYS “bodyweight training” don’t be fooled, it’s great for all your training, and is very adaptable.  While it’s completely optimal for the Convict Conditioning Programs, I’ve found that it’s also good for cataloging my kettlebell, qigong, and mobility practices too.

More than just a log book, it’s also chock full of training tips, example routines, photos, and inspiration –

CC Log Book

So – while there’s still a few days left of 2014, I’ve been using them to “test drive” some of the plans for the next year.  Which brings me to another point, if you do have plans or goals to improve your health and life in the new year, you don’t need to wait until the 1st, go ahead and get started now! 🙂
