A trip to Manhattan isn’t complete without a brainstorming, strategy-focused visit with Rolando Garcia III…
The day or two before meeting up with Rolando Garcia III, I’d arrived at Irving Farms (recommended coffee! I brought my friend a bag back and she’s still raving about it) a little early to meet up with Phil Ross and Nykki Ross (we were plotting out the podcast etc for the next week). I suddenly realized that the 3 hardboiled eggs and avocado I’d eaten for breakfast in the cafe of the hostel were long gone and the “egg plate” at Irving Farms sounded way too tempting.
It was more than I’m accustomed to paying for scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast (which I usually skip) even in often-over-priced Winter Park, but I was hungry and any time is a good time for breakfast.
After enjoying the eggs (which were cooked with such skill that they ended up being worth the price) I turned my attention to the bacon and the espresso which had also been skillfully made… I took a bite of bacon, then took a sip of espresso. Wow that was good! Hmmm SNAP and it’s on Instagram. I didn’t know that anyone saw it really, because Phil and Nykki walked through the door just as I ate the last of the bacon. After a flurry of greetings we settled in for a chat and planned out the visit to NJ that resulted in the podcast and tutorial video linked here.
Back to the bacon… So around this same time Rolando sees the photo of the bacon and espresso and realizes that it’s a pretty good idea. By the time I meet up with him the following day I’ve totally forgotten about the Instagram post (this is pretty typical for me, I do a lot in a day at least in my head LOL). So after we get settled at Bouchon Bakery for lunch and are about to start seriously considering the menu, Rolando brings up the “bacon and espresso” combo and WISELY suggests that we stage a redo. The waiter informs us that they don’t have any bacon… so I ask about panchetta, he says no… then remembers that they do have bacon lardons available. PERFECT!!!!!!! So we order two triple espressos and a little bowl of bacon lardons. It may sound strange, but having been reasoably low carb / fat adapted for so long I knew that this would absolutely be a brain boost. Our annual lunch meetups are becoming pretty legendary in terms of brainstorming and this was to be no exception.
One thing that’s very exciting is that Rolando’s book, Intrinsic Excellence (in the mean time, read more about that here and here) is coming out soon. And if you’ve been struggling as a full time fitness trainer, there’s an extremely good chance that you’ll find the answers to some of your most critical sales-making, customer-keeping questions in this book. Yes, I’ve read it 🙂 and there are some game changing concepts that I haven’t seen in other books–especially ones aimed at the fitness industry. Another interesting thing about the book is that these same crucial concepts apply to other industries as well.
Rolando had some excellent advice for me as related to my largest “top secret” project… so obviously I’m going to keep that to myself here. Somewhat related/unrelated is the fact that I will FINALLY be taking Elliot Hulse’s advice (which he graciously shared years ago in this early interview I did for Dragon Door) about posting a daily video on Youtube.com While I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep it up, I’ve found that adding in a vlog or livestream here or there has been easy enough. If you subscribe to my Youtube channel you can opt to be notified of when my newest things happen as well as when I’m streaming something live. I’m a 1-2 takes type of person, so there’s plenty of wacky real life in the streams, especially if you catch them before archive! While I’m still hammering out the details of better lighting (see example of overexposure below) I can tell that some progress is being made as I get a clue. HAHAHA. Thank you in advance for your patience.
So… a few days ago a bunch of people were making videos with Neuro-Grips! I love Neuro-Grips and have been using them since the first day that Dragon Door offered them. In fact the “model” photos on their official page is ME! VERY proud of that, actually. SO when I saw that people were posting videos of their max reps with them, I had to join in. My first try was a little weak (only 18 reps) and I knew I could do better, so after my cryosauna session that day (more on that in a future post) I decided to give it another go and am proud to report I managed to eek out 24 solid reps and a reasonably hilarious attempt at 25.
(don’t laugh at my decor, I like it…)
