An Interview with Zuzka Light, Internet Fitness Personality and Now an RKC Instructor!

There's several blog posts in the works for you, but in the mean time, I wanted to make sure you didn't miss this interview with Zuzka Light for Dragon Door.  Having seen her material for years, it was a lot of fun to actually talk for an interview.   She's really cool, very down to earth and has SEVEN dogs!  I heard one of them barking a little in the background of our call!   Anyhow, the interview is all about her start in fitness, blogging, and of course all about kettlebells and her new status as an RKC instructor!

Master RKC Max Shank and I had a VERY IMPORTANT discussion

Having interviewed Max for Dragon Door on at least two occasions, somewhere along the line we realized that we have a shared love for cheese.  While many people are not consuming dairy right now, I wanted to know why Max was as passionate as ever about cheese.  I know why I am, but wanted to hear his reasons.   Through the MP3 file below, you'll discover that answer, but also hear us as we tell you what cheeses are in our refrigerators RIGHT NOW.  We share easy practical meal solutions, strategies, the importance of high quality foods, cooking at home, and some fairly funny stuff too.   We're particular about how we like eggs cooked apparently, and I was relieved to find out that I was not alone in a few of these argueably almost-neurotic approaches.

Anyway, right click, or click and save below so you can listen at your computer with ease, or transfer the MP3 to a portable player of your choosing.   And let me know what you think of the occasional podcast - I'm considering creating a regular "show" but am weighing the logistics and practicality against listenership.  Feel free to let me know how you feel about podcasts and MP3s.

A Small Group Kettlebell and Bodyweight Workout, Plus Q+A with Forest Vance on Kettlebell Challenge Workouts 2.0

With the threat of nasty weather once again, we opted to have class at the cool East Coast Martial Arts Supply dojo.   This was a simple but interesting workout which I've adapted for online listing (removed a new ab drill that I need to make an explanatory video for before listing it here - or need to discover what in the world it might actually be called?!)

We started with a Primal Move warm up then started right in with a mini version of the so called "sissy challenge".   Everyone chose a moderate kettlebell and began with:

  • 15 swings, 1 burpee
  • 14 swings, 2 burpees
  • 13 swings, 3 burpees
  • follow the pattern all the way to
  • 1 Swing, 15 burpees

Some Interesting Resources....

Most but not all of you may know about Dragon Door's new blogs - the RKC Blog and the Progressive Calisthenics Blog.   Both are still fairly new, but the articles are varied and often very relevant to most people who love these modes of training.   I've even found tips which have helped greatly with some of my clients.   Its also a great resource to send your advanced clients to as well.   Often an all-star cast of characters including authors show up to comm

Updates, More Interviews, Mike Gillette Makes Ripley's Believe It Or Not, and a Workout Programming Question

There's so much cool stuff going on right now that I feel compelled to list out a whole lot of it here.

First off - checking email this morning yielded some GREAT news as Beth Andrews has been promoted to Senior RKC!   Beth is not only an incredible leader, but she's really cool, a lot of fun and a great example of what we can do in terms of strength and skill when we put our minds to it.  Beth has demonstrated some amazing strength ever since I've known her, and my mind still reels from watching how easily she did a pull up with an extra 24kg... and that happened a while ago.  Beth is seriously into pull ups - and I'm pretty sure that she'll be knocking out 1 arm chin ups very soon, if she isn't already!
