Most but not all of you may know about Dragon Door's new blogs - the RKC Blog and the Progressive Calisthenics Blog. Both are still fairly new, but the articles are varied and often very relevant to most people who love these modes of training. I've even found tips which have helped greatly with some of my clients. Its also a great resource to send your advanced clients … [Read more...] about Some Interesting Resources….

Kettlebell and Bodyweight Circuit Workout – Descent into Madness (Descending Ladder)
Here's a fun one from the kettlebell small group yesterday. We reinforced the "kettlebell wagon" to make it more heavy duty - while it's rated for 700lbs, the manufacturers seem to have thought we'd only use it for bags of mulch, not heavy iron kettlebells... a precision cut piece of plywood did the trick, so look for more heavy swing/deadlift workouts in the near … [Read more...] about Kettlebell and Bodyweight Circuit Workout – Descent into Madness (Descending Ladder)
Tearing It Up on Tuesday – Kettlebell and Bodyweight Workout
First off - make sure you keep everyone in Boston in your thoughts. It was so hard to watch this happen, especially somewhere which has so recently shown me such great hospitality. Amber Lee of GiryaScope was right near where it happened, and I am just so thankful that my close friend and fellow RKC was safe and able to help others. You can read her experience here and I … [Read more...] about Tearing It Up on Tuesday – Kettlebell and Bodyweight Workout
Good Mojo in the Dojo, a Kettlebell and Bodyweight Workout
The weather was supposed to be completely terrible - so we made plans to have the kettlebell small group class meet at the venerable martial arts hub known as East Coast Martial Arts Supply on Colonial. This store has been there forever, and recently we've begun a very nice friendship. Earlier in the week, I had a very fascinating intro to Systema lesson there and plan to … [Read more...] about Good Mojo in the Dojo, a Kettlebell and Bodyweight Workout

Abracadabra – a Slightly Core-Focused Kettlebell and Friends Challenge!
Small group had FUN with this one tonight - it involved many of our favorite "toys": kettlebells in a variety of weights (12kg, 14kg, 16kg, 24kg), a Battling Rope, and the infamous "evil wheel" (aka the $12 of pain, ab wheel). We began with a Primal Move warm up, then 5 minutes of get-up practice (alternating sides) with a comfortable kettlebell - the focus was for form and … [Read more...] about Abracadabra – a Slightly Core-Focused Kettlebell and Friends Challenge!
Code Name: Indestructible – 007, Kettlebells, Bodyweight, and Other Awesome Things…
One of the things fellow instructors ask me about A LOT is programming for small and large exercise groups. I love coming up with interesting workouts which appropriately challenge, progress, and engage students and clients. Stipulations like location, equipment which may and may not be available only seem to fuel the creative fire. Working around a theme is another really fun … [Read more...] about Code Name: Indestructible – 007, Kettlebells, Bodyweight, and Other Awesome Things…
Bruce Lee Birthday Celebration Workout
The key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering.” – Bruce Lee Today would have been Bruce Lee's 72nd birthday - his influence on martial arts, fitness and entertainment continue to this day without showing any signs of slowing down. Bruce Lee's approach to training is an inspiration to my own training in an odd indirect sort of way, most of which is summed up … [Read more...] about Bruce Lee Birthday Celebration Workout
Something Simple, Something Brutal – a Kettlebell and Bodyweight Workout
Really interesting day - mostly fun even - one of the highlights before class was visiting the really cool no-nonesense studio Leanne Ellington has in Maitland - I may have gotten her hooked on the RKC/HKC style kettlebell swing - we had a blast discussing Primal Move, FMS, and quite honestly geeked out just a heck of a whole lot. I felt like having a simple class (even … [Read more...] about Something Simple, Something Brutal – a Kettlebell and Bodyweight Workout
Not One But TWO?? Decided Today Was the Day To Try Muscle Ups Again!
Decided today was the day - they are ugly as sin, but that'll go away with practice. I want to get rid of that slight kip too... :) But in the meantime, I am happy with being able to do two muscle ups from a dead hang today. I was using some awesome hints from Al Kavadlo and his book Raising the Bar - and of course Convict Conditioning (which calls these "sentry pull ups" btw - … [Read more...] about Not One But TWO??
