In case you need to work up an appetite for all that food, here’s a simple workout we did a few weeks ago, enjoyed and then I promptly put it in the stack of things to type out for you…. which I finally found now (it’s been busy around here…).
Warm up with some favorite joint mobility exercises and how about a little bit of jump rope? Next…
100 swings with a moderate to lighter size kettlebell(the women in the group used 12kg, 14kg, 16kg, guys opted for 18kg, 20kg, 24kg but that’s just to give ideas…) the goal is 100 in a row without setting it down, but be safe first and foremost… if it needs to be broken up into sets with a little rest, there’s nothing wrong with that, we’re still in the warm up zone here…
Then we did 10 get-ups (alternating sides) with our moderate to lighter size kettlebell before moving onto the fun circuit… we were short on time so it was just 3 rounds through, but that can always be adjusted:
- 30 battling rope “up down” rope throws (no rope? Do 10 burpees instead!?)
- 10 per side kettlebell rows
- 5 pull ups (or 8-10 Aussie pull ups)
- 20 kettlebell swings (because some days 100 isn’t enough)
- 1 HEAVY farmers’ walk*
Cool down involved putting all that stuff away, and some mobility drills specific to the people who were there. Work on your own “issues” during the cool down – always time well spent!*We had a short walking area, so did the “smart” thing and grabbed a 40kg and 48kg, switching hands at the midpoint turnaround OOF! Adjust as needed, a pair of 20kg kettlebells or much less is plenty awesome too… be safe! The point of the farmers walk is to work on grip, good posture, and awareness… and strength. Always deadlift those kettlebells up safely, growling helps too.
