Product Review: Triton Nutrition Vital Vegan Protein – Vanilla

February 8, 2014 By Adrienne Leave a Comment

As many of you know, I’m more of a food person than a supplements person.  However, the convenience of making the occasional shake as a snack or quick breakfast cannot be denied.   Of course, what the shake is made from is of the utmost importance.   Recently in San Diego, I met one of the heads of the new company, Triton Nutrition, he was attending (and excelling greatly at) the RKC Workshop.   Upon later investigation I found out that the other head of Triton is an RKC (now RKC2 ) as well as a PharmD.   All the items sold by Triton are pharmacutical grade, btw.   So here’s more about the protein powder that picky me will not only happily ingest, but occasionally crave… There’s also a chocolate available that I’ve heard great things about too.   Given that I like to keep flavor options open, I usually buy plain or vanilla powders.

This particular protein is really good for people who may have various food allergies or sensitivities, as the ingredients manage to sidestep just about every allergy imaginable.   The protein itself is derived from 5 plant sources – pea isolate, rice concentrate, organic hemp, chia seeds, and cranberries.  Interestingly, it doesn’t taste or smell like any of these things – and it also doesn’t have a flat, powdery nasty flavor either.  Quite honestly, I think it tastes really good.   And while rice is a component, they manage to keep the carbs low – 11g total, with 4g of those being dietary fiber, 1g being xylitol, and just 4g sugar total.   Two sweetener ingredients total – evaporated organic cane juice and xylitol in “just enough” quantities.  Also included are several powerful adaptogens and MCT (medium chain triglycerides).

Here’s a really lazy easy shake I make on a somewhat regular basis – just uses this protein powder, their chocolate flavor vital greens and some chilled water:
