My second recent trip to the greater Boston area included a second trip to the Taza chocolate factory. This incredible and delicious chocolate has a very unique almost “grainy” texture due to the fact that it is stone ground in a very interesting traditional Mexican way. The factory itself is housed in an old school warehouse in a fairly industrial area of Somerville. We visited this most recent time right after leading a 3 hour general-populations Primal Move intro workshop, so I was ready for some serious snacking. Fortuntately for our party of three, the samples were flowing freely.
This stone ground (they’ll show you the process!) 70% dark chocolate is blended with a well balanced but complex smoky and spicy chipotle chili. While it is in no way overbearing, it is pervasive throughout the chocolate, and really kicks in nicely around the 2nd or 3rd bite. Chew slowly so that the toothsome chocolate half melts, half crunches. Faaaaaaaabulous. 2 Disc packages ensure that you can share this with a few friends without violence or mean words. The discs themselves lend to easy portioning. I snap one in half for a satisfying flavor experience after lunch or with a double espresso or hot tea. Good times indeed! Check out the factory here.
