This past weekend, we wrapped up another fantastic PCC Workshop. And yet again, we had an incredibly accomplished group in attendence… it’s funny how the bodyweight crowd is just a little different, but incredibly atheltic too. I helped to test candidates with the infamous Century Test alongside Al and Danny Kavadlo–a task I take VERY seriously. When you pass the test in my line, you can have the knowledge that I am proud for you to represent not only the PCC program, but in some small way, also my own standards… sounds weird but you know what I mean. When we test, we’re basically saying that we think these candidates are ready to represent the PCC and that they are able to fully communicate all the knowledge we’ve thrown at them over the past few days… PLUS uphold a certain level of physical prowess. I’ve been very impressed with the group of people who have shown up for this particular PCC Workshop, and while there’s just a handful of women in attendence, they have really shown a very high level of ability and some serious enthusiasm. Not to mention everyone has been super fun.
I also had the fun honor of helping Al and Danny take some “Street Workout” pictures too, you wouldn’t beleive how entertaining it is to watch these two in action, not only are they incredibly skilled, they’re very creative with whatever we find, funky angles, and of course there’s always plenty of laughs. You can look forward to seeing some very daredevil photos from them soon.
In other news, this podcast episode–minor buzzing in first 10 seconds, but it goes away, I promise! (via iTunes, via direct MP3 download) talks a little about the first day of this PCC, along with a crucial kettlebell tip from a recent article and interview of neurosurgeon, Dr. Patrick Roth. He’s been able to use kettlebells to help back pain patients–and himself!
Last week, I shared an article with the PCC Blog on one of my very favorite moves, the Dragon Flag and was VERY pleased to report that we taught a bit about it today at the PCC during a portion on abdominal training. And am SUPER proud that I helped a few fellow STRONG PCC ladies towards their own dragon flags… they had some great skills and an amazing capacity for learning too. The guys need to watch out, as there were a couple first jump muscle-ups from the women’s crew too. From my own experience it doesn’t take much more from that point until you get a true, dead hang zero kip muscle-up on a bar too….
Finally, the main portion of the podcast is a very fun discussion of vegetables, fruit, and very interesting raw/living ways to prepare them–instead of focusing on how “different” a raw and living plant based diet might be different than primal/paleo/etc. we chose to talk about some of the great things both have in common… not to mention some unusual and delicious NOODLE alternatives. This is a fun chat with health food enthusiast (and I mean serious enthusiast… she makes her own kombucha, saurekraut, and MORE) Adrienne Frankenfield of the very new blog A Taste of Two Plates.
