There’s a new post on the Progressive Calisthenics Blog from earlier this week – and you’ll also get to see two photos from the upcoming Dragon Door book, Neuro-Mass!!! I’m still just so honored to be included on this project. Anyway – the post linked above is about how my regular training with kettlebells and Convict Conditioning really prepared me for the unknowns of the photoshoot! Should also add that the first ever Progressive Calisthenics Certification Workshop has sold out – but don’t despair, they’ve added another one! I’ll be helping to instruct at both, so hoping to see you there!
A little while ago, I purchased a fairly decent sized haul of Dragon Door kettlebells, you may have seen the video from an earlier post. I really can’t say enough good things about the new 18kg and 22kg kettlebell sizes, the “new” hasn’t worn off and it wasn’t just some sort of weird infatuation after all. They’re especially fun with my kettlebell small group. The “fun” comes from the fact that I’m not one of those people who likes to “color code” or especially mark our kettlebells more than how they come. The thing is, the 18kg doesn’t look much different than the 16kg. It fooled me the other day and I was about to pout about “feeling a little weak” until I noticed I’d picked up the heavier kb by accident. I always tell people what they’re about to lift – but the 18kg is really a lot of fun for people who might have gotten just a little too comfortable with a 16kg. The 18kg is just a little tiny bit of a wakeup call. The handle is also really nice on these anyway. 18kg just became the new default size for my own double kb work for reps…. I just LOVE THEM… they’re just right for where I’m at at the moment… ♥♥♥ seriously.
So in this elated moment here’s a recipe – I’ve been using MyFitnessPal to get the estimated nutrition info macros on a few things for fun and because everyone is so anti-calorie-counting these days, it makes me curious about what I am naturally consuming. As a rule though, any names for protein shakes I make up have to be totally absurd. Sometime soon I’ll post the “bloodthirsty dragon” shake recipe, but for now I present to you:
“Countess Chocula Immortalle Elixir”
- 1 scoop grass fed whey protein vanilla
- 1 tbsp (or more) raw organic cacao powder (I like the Balinese stuff)
- (ignore this next ingredient, Laurel and Anna…) 10g Protein Factory super plasma protein powder
- 1 tbsp Triton Nutrition MCT oil
- A few grains of salt
- 1.5 or less cup water
Blend mercilessly into a froth and devour! Approx nutritional info – Calories – 284, Carbs 14g (only 2g of which are sugar from the whey), Fat 18g, Protein 33g Not bad for a snack.
Let me know if you try it. I use a “Magic Bullet” blender for this – and it gets a LOT of air whipped into the shake which makes for a really nice texture.
