Video Time! Tips for Kettlebell Cleans, Presses, Snatches, and a Circuit I Did in the Driveway

Double Kettlebell Swings

Those of you who are already subscribed to the GiryaGirlTV Youtube channel may have already seen these videos when I uploaded them a few days ago…

However, a little more explanation might be useful too.  In a hyperscripted, photoshopped, over-produced world (and with my self-imposed “ambitious” workschedule) it can be fun to just knock out a video off the cuff.  So, let me apologize in advance if this video doesn’t seem to follow the exact order you think that it should — there is a logic to it however.  Hopefully that will be obvious to others!

The first video is a collection of tips for the ever-challenging and often great source of frustration… the kettlebell clean!  In my own beginner kettlebell journey starting back in 2008-2009 or so, the kettlebell clean was the cause of much consternation… it was sooo annoying not to be able to “get it”, but when I finally did, the true extreme value of the clean was obvious.  I like to do heavy single cleans now, double cleans, cleans for cleans sake, and of course cleans as transitions in a “don’t put it down until you’re finished” combination challenge.

Here’s the video for tips on the clean, press, and a little bit of talk on the kettlebell snatch and how it relates.  This is by no means even scratching the surface on these topics, but depending on what’s going on with your training, you may find a game changer in here.

For those wondering what I’ve been doing with that giant tire from the boonies, here’s a little circuit that seems to just blast stress… and allows for a practicing power moves too.  Fortunately, my neighbors are also all into weird hobbies and I’m only decade and/or several tax brackets away from making the transition from “weird” to “eccentric”.  Looking forward to that…

5 Rounds of…

  • 2 Tire flips
  • 10 Double kettlebell swings
  • 5 Double kettlebell presses
  • 10 low Ultimate Sandbag rotational lunges

Lastly, here’s a fun “breakfast foods tip”.  For those of you who are freaked out by that very dramatic and not necessarily terribly scientific declaration by the WHO (the World Health Organization, not the classic pop band) about bacon coming to KILL US ALL, it’s important to know that you can find delicious organic bacon that is not made with highly processed forms of nitrates (may contain a small amount of naturally occuring ones from like celery juice for example).  Ok back to the bacon… I like to “soft cook” the bacon in the pan, then scoot the pieces to each side (in the example below there’s two pieces of bacon and two beaten eggs). When the bacon is slowly sizzling on the sides, I gently pour in the beaten egg, which naturally attaches to the bacon as it cooks.  So then there’s this nice bacon-y “ruffle” on the edge of the eggs when you plate it!  As an alternative to the “scare your grandma” drama-rama-freakouts of mainstream media’s approach to “nutrition” I wholeheartedly recommend the very cool book from Dr. Chris Hardy and Marty Gallagher, Strong Medicine.

…mmmm breakfast foods…
