I am a guacamole fiend. Don’t even try to share a bowl of it with me at a restaurant, go ahead and order your own – before things get…. awkward. Can’t help it, and I’ll apologize profusely, but I won’t stop. Then a friend on twitter posted that today was National Guacamole Day today – so I knew that SOMETHING would have to happen to commemorate this oh so important day. After picking up the necessary supplies, I made a little video to show you 2 possible ways to get your guac on – in case you don’t feel like watching me be a complete goof (I shouldn’t be allowed around video cameras when I’m in this mood) and cut up a bunch of veggies, the recipes are also listed below the video:
Need Guac Now (single serving):
- 1 Haas Avocado – mashed
- Juice of 1/2 lime
- 1/4-teaspoon sea salt (preferably Ghost Pepper sea salt from my friends at Winter Park Spice and Tea Exchange)
- 1/4-1/2 teaspoon (unsalted) adobo like from my friends’ competitor’s Penzey’s Spices. OR if you use adobo with salt, leave out the extra salt listed above
Stir, let sit as long as you can stand it (30sec-5mins) and eat.
Standard GiryaGirl.com HQ Official Guacamole (single serving!):
- 1 Haas Avocado
- Juice of 1 lime
- 1/2 tomato seeded and chopped
- 1/2 shallot minced
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, minced
- Fresh ground black pepper to taste
- Sea Salt to taste (use the ghost pepper infused stuff from my buddies…)
- A few drops of blazing hot hot sauce!!! (optional)
Avocados are chock full of healthy fats, their thick skins protect the insides from pesticides (if you buy conventional), not to mention oodles of potassium in avocados… eat it up, its good for you!
The other great thing about guacamole is that you can really make it your own. Get creative – try adding onion and garlic instead of the shallot, or, leave out the garlic and use garlic chili paste from your local Asian grocer. Add in bell pepper… but most of all, have fun with it.
