Even with all the rain lately, I've managed to write (and do) quite a few really fun outdoor workouts While working out in a gym or indoors (the living room here is pretty much a gym at this point) is nice, especially in the summer, working outdoors is always a special treat, even in the 90-something degree NC summer. It cracks me up though, since moving here how … [Read more...] about Workout Wednesday: Workout Videos, Two Kettlebell and Bodyweight Workouts & Skill Training For Active Rest

Live from downtown Durham, answers to Neuro-Grip questions! And Why I Haven’t Been Doing Regular Pushups in Workouts
A lot of very cool things are happening at the moment, which is great, but it has kept me from writing as much as I'd like to here! So in order to make up for that this will be a full featured fun post, hopefully including topics you're jazzed about as much as I am. First off, I recently had an email inquiry: "what else can you do with Neuro-Grips besides push-ups?" I didn't … [Read more...] about Live from downtown Durham, answers to Neuro-Grip questions! The Sculpture Garden Workout: Large Stone Stacking, Kettlebell Swings, Mace 10&2s, and more!
Those of you following me on social media already know I've been having a lot of fun coming up with outdoor workouts recently--and that I've found a bunch of smooth stones to play with too. After finding a good selection of them in various weights (though I am not sure how heavy the largest one is yet, but am fairly sure it weighs a little more than I do) 100+?, 100, 60, 40, … [Read more...] about The Sculpture Garden Workout: Large Stone Stacking, Kettlebell Swings, Mace 10&2s, and more!
Kettlebell Strength and Mobility Workout with a Pump Stretch Prying Cobra Demo Video!
Once again I'm working with a fairly tight schedule with hard deadlines, self-imposed deadlines, productivity goals, catching up from the move (seriously the glass doors on the cabinets need to go up TONIGHT aggh!), and I'm now taking a 1.5hr Systema class twice a week. Needless to say I am working on reconfiguring my training. On the plus side (BIG plus) not sharing a floor … [Read more...] about Kettlebell Strength and Mobility Workout with a Pump Stretch Prying Cobra Demo Video!
Backyard Shoulder Mobility and Generalized Kettlebell Mini Workout
After seeing Ryan Pitts wield that crazy Leviathan Mace yesterday I knew that I'd have to get in at least a little mace work today. I also needed to work on my shoulders some too after a 10 round wicked pairing of heavy kettlebell swings and pullups (among other things... I need to share that workout with you this week...) the other day. The weather was so nice that I decided … [Read more...] about Backyard Shoulder Mobility and Generalized Kettlebell Mini Workout
A Chat with Wim Hof The Iceman, Poke Bowl Mania, Thrive Market, and the Give Back Box Program
Just a few weeks ago, I clicked a couple buttons on Skype and interviewed the one and only Wim Hof--The Iceman for Dragon Door. After only about two rings, here he was, smiling and waving from the other side of the Atlantic. I hope that the enthusiasm in his answers comes through in the printed version for you. Wim is the genuine article, and as Scott Carney had said in his … [Read more...] about A Chat with Wim Hof The Iceman, Poke Bowl Mania, Thrive Market, and the Give Back Box Program
Austin Adventures with the SCC and HKC – Plus a Workout and Mobility Stuff!
Ever have one of those trips where you come back and you know you've changed in some way? This was definitely one of those! And I mean that in a good way. There was no shortage of adventure and excitement this past weekend in Austin, Texas. In fact for one of the more action packed parts, I am only half-joking about exaggerating it a little and writing it up as a … [Read more...] about Austin Adventures with the SCC and HKC – Plus a Workout and Mobility Stuff!
The “Half and Half” Kettlebell Workout
I have a real love of heavy single kettlebell swings, especially in sets of 10. That rep range really lets me focus on the form and generate as much power as I can, then the set ends before anything has the chance to get weird. For this reason I really love this rep range for advanced beginners or even intermediate folks for regular swings, they don't have time to let a bad … [Read more...] about The “Half and Half” Kettlebell Workout
YES! Neuro-Grips are BACK!!
Neuro-Grips are FINALLY back in stock, honestly, I was pretty bummed out that they were not available for Christmas gift giving. But they are back now! Ever since I first tried the rough prototypes (one was even slightly not level) back in 2013 or so, I've used them in my training. And yes, if you go to the Neuro-Grips page you'll see someone very familar in the demo photos. … [Read more...] about YES! Neuro-Grips are BACK!!
Competitive Circuit Workout for Monkey Bars, Bodyweight Exercise, and Sprints
I've enjoyed variations of this little combo for a couple of years, it's always a lot of fun and can even feel a little bit like a game. Most recently a friend and I did the workout for 10 rounds followed by a more focused strength workout. If you have a group, you can even perform this as an interesting relay race. No matter how many rounds you choose, be sure to record the … [Read more...] about Competitive Circuit Workout for Monkey Bars, Bodyweight Exercise, and Sprints
