Getting Infused with Vitamins… an Experience with IV Vitamin Therapy [Video Included]

July 7, 2016 By Adrienne Harvey Leave a Comment

Found myself in a bit of a perfect storm… back to back workshops, more travel than normal, a horrendous sleep schedule (totally my fault). When I got back home, all of this led to the ever-dreaded “summer cold”.  Combine this with the fact that I’d been looking for a good excuse to try iv vitamin therapy (I needed an excuse, the cost was slightly outside my “what the heck, why not” range).

Trying out IV Vitamin Therapy at Asim Medical

Then there’s the fact that my friends at Wittmer Chiropractic/Central Florida Cryo would be on vacation for the whole week… leaving me with a “strange health treatment” shaped hole in the schedule for the week, since I’d need to wait for more cryotherapy fun.

Between coughs, I managed to call Asim Medical on Friday just before they closed and scheduled an appointment to try either the high dose vitamin C or their custom “under the weather” wellness mix (vitamin c, zinc, lysine, etc.).  Since Monday was July 4th (hope you had a great one), Tuesday was the earliest available time. I put it in the middle of the day since there would likely be an energy effect and I’d want to take advantage of that for afternoon productivity.  This was a good decision!

Asim Medical is conveniently near where I live, and I’d been there before. I had tried (and liked) an aqua facial there last year. Basically gentle exfoliation with pressurized sterile saline followed with nutrient rich serums. (I’m a little bit of a skincare weirdo but don’t blog about it so much. That might seem funny to some of you who’ve noticed I’m not into makeup.) Asim has a variety of treatments, so its a nicely private office, decorated in what I’d call “Modern MedSpa”. The important part is that is a very clean and pleasent atmosphere. Given my aversion to the “doctor’s office” atmosphere, I appreciate this a whole lot.

RN Janna explained the very basic procedure to me and even asked if I had any preference of where to stick me for the IV. Given that my veins are easy to find, I told her to just pick a standard spot that wouldn’t necessarily bruise much. (My nurse friend says that she could, “Probably stick me with her eyes shut” to which I replied, “That’s great, let’s never do that!”) The last time I got poked with a needle was to get a tetanus shot thanks to an outdoor workout gifting my hand with a random scary metal wire that I pulled out and which kept going.  Anyway, I decided to check out that LOVELY chandelier while she quickly placed the IV needle. As predicted, first try, no drama and it didn’t even hurt! Cool!

We decided that the Asim “under the weather” wellness concoction would be a better choice over the straight Vitamin C, which is also very beneficial, but the extra vitamins in the “Under the Weather” were more specific to my summer cold situation. This of course included zinc and lysine. Must say, given how much this whole experience was not a big deal at all, I’m curious to try some of the other formulations as life experiences may call for them! The athletic recovery mix seems especially interesting for example. Here’s more about all of them – https://asimmedical.com/iv-therapy-winter-park-fl/

Anyway at this point I was all set up with the 250mL bag of vitamins and chilling out on the nice treatment chaise.  At this point of course I had to shoot some silly videos and selfies, making sure that I didn’t look especially distressed in any of them.  I didnt want my phone to come alive with concerned family far and wide. Interestingly enough I noticed on Facebook that even though I was making a funny face and quite obviously in a more “spa” setting, concern was still raised with a few of my Facebook friends. Sorry everyone! After just a few minutes, I noticed sensing a vitamin-y aroma… like somewhere half between smelling and tasting while actually doing neither. Like tasting without tasting and smelling without smelling… sorry for the oblique discription.

Have you ever smelled a bottle of vitamins? It was like that but kind of more from the inside. I’m one of those “special” people with fairly amped senses, but it was obvious that the vitamins were definitely working through my system. Other than fiddling with my phone long enough for a couple of short videos (edited together for you below), I used the time to just relax and take a few moments to do absolutely nothing. AHHHHHH. In a little over 30 minutes all of the solution had passed into my bloodstream and I was feeling pretty darn energetic!  Good! Time to get some work done!

I came back and did some of the more office/content management tasks for a large client then took out the recycling.  Someone saw me and seeing the small tattle-tale “I’ve had an IV” bandage asked, “What happened? Are you ok?” Then kind of chuckled at me as it quickly became obvious that I was up to my usual “let’s try this interesting health thing” antics. During this time I also noted that I wasn’t coughing! WOOOO!  I worked for the rest of the day and into the night as ususal for a Tuesday. Then when I woke up on Wednesday morning the cold was GONE, and my face seemed to have a nice glow to it too. Excellent!!!

Here’s a video to show you a little more of how it all happened:
