Several months ago I was at the local “farmer’s market” (put in quotes as it isn’t a real farmers market, mostly a weekly collection of food vendors who set up tables to sell stuff to suburbanites – not a bad thing, but I haven’t seen a real farmer there yet) and purchased an expensive little bag of a snack mix called “Caveman crunch” it was $2 for half a handful and I mostly bought it because of its ingredient list – so I could make my own. Finally, after collecting ingredients from various sources, I’ve made some, I’m still messing around with the quantities of each ingredient so there isn’t a standardized recipe YET. When I get it right though, I will totally share it here for you to enjoy too if you wish. I think you could probably survive for several days on this stuff if you got lost in the woods: Walnuts, almonds, pecans, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, coconut (unsweetened dried), sesame seeds, goji berries, cocoa nibs, chia seeds, brown rice syrup (to stick it all together a little bit), coconut oil, vanilla extract, sea salt. The original recipe called for honey, but I didn’t have any and had used brown rice syrup to stick snack mixes together before… yum yum, but watch your quantities, this stuff is seriously calorie dense!
