Rings of Power by Mike GIllette

Rings of Power by Mike Gillette Cool new book from Mike Gillette about Ring Training for all fitness levels. Being on this shoot with Mike was like working with a real live action hero! (And I got to put a cinderblock on him too!) Mike knows his stuff and shares everything you need to know for his versatile go-anywhere ring training.  Full progressions of every exercise, workout plans, and all the know-how to take the training as far as you wish. Good stuff, and yes, that's me on the left side of the cover  :)

Dragon Door

So Much Excitement, So much To Share! (and a Kettlebell Workout)

First off, if you haven't already checked it out,  Explosive Calisthenics (sometimes referred to by enthusiasts and superfans as Convict Conditioning Vol 3) is now out in both paperback and eBook form! While the eBook might be convenient in some ways, like the fact that you wouldn't need to wait on or pay for shipping, the paperback is just really a while lot of fun.  It's a full color large format book just like the original Convict Conditioning, and Vol 2 and chock full of inspiring photos of the progressions to some of the most impressive bodyweight skills on the planet... including several that scare the heck out of me (back flip, front flip!).  No disrespect to anyone, but the back flip and front flip guys probably impress me the most out of anyone pictured in the book.  You'll even find a couple of photos of some people in there you may recognize as well! But as we all know, while the photos may be cool, the info is what we're after and that is in this book by the TRUCKLOAD!

The other fun item to share today is an article and bodyweight workout featured in Experience Life Magazine - Jen Sinkler wrote the article and she quotes the Kavadlo bros and myself in it - AND there's a bodyweight workout with little pictures that you can do this weekend.  (Let me know how it goes).

Giving the SSST a Try and Some Interesting Ideas

kettlebell beast 106lbs and puppy 10lbsOne of the things I most enjoy doing is conducting written interviews for Dragon Door.  This has put me in touch with such a variety of inspiring people, and has even made lasting friendships too.   Being able to share their stories is an honor that is not taken lightly.  The other great thing about the interviews is they often give me ideas about challenges I'd like to try.  Sometimes, as in the case of this past week, a good 2/3 of the Thursday small group challenge was from an interviewee (will share that workout AFTER his interview is live) mainly because it sounded like such a great idea and I wanted to see how it would do with my training partners and friends.

You can find all the interviews by clicking right here, by the way... and I will be talking about specific interviews more often from here on out, because these people are SO inspiring and awesome.  There's bound to be someone's story in there that will resonate and/or inspire you.

Similarly, yesterday I was VERY much inspired by an extremely interesting interviewee to finally try the SSST (which when you say it over the phone to your training partner is apparently really confusing sounding... HOW many Ss??).  Those who know me well, know that the RKC kettlebell snatch test is still a mental challenge for me, and something that I actually sort of dread in a recert situation.  Seriously, even now.  Its much better since they updated the weight classes and added the 14kg kettlebell (which is in my group of "most favorite kettlebells") - For women, before there was this massive jump from doing the test with either the 12kg or 16kg which as my friend and I discussed last night there are worlds, nay UNIVERSES of difference hiding in those 4 kilos... heck there's universes of difference hiding between the 12kg and 14kg if you're doing 5 minutes of snatching!

New Book From Paul Wade, Memorial Day Murph Workout and WODDawg.com

First off, super excited that Dragon Door has released (only in eBook form for now, but the paperback will be coming soon!) a brand new book from Paul Wade of Convict Conditioning fame: C-Mass: How to Maximize Muscle Growth Using Bodyweight-Only Training.  On the cover you'll probably recognize our pals, Al and Danny Kavadlo, as you'll also see them throughout the next info-packed 130 pages.   The book features a lot of fun photos too -- from bodyweight strength greats of the past, to photos from PCC workshop

Merry Christmas, Goal Thoughts, and Something Awesome is FREE!

First off -- MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!   Hopefully you're having fun with your favorite people today.  Also, for "Festivus" celebrators... hopefully you are not trying to heal up any "feats of strength" related injuries.  Mom and Dad sent me a hilarious video this morning of their occasionally rambunctious dog tearing the stuffing out of his favorite new toys.

So... after reviewing the fantastic info-filled notes at the beginning of the Convict Conditioning Log Book (the PDF Ebook version is free as a gift from Dragon Door until Jan 1st, 2014!!) I've decided to embark on the "Lockdown" plan - slightly modifed to fit some specific workshop-based goals of course (some of which will be easily programmed in the place of "sports"). Several days in now and I am very happy with this decision. If you're a fan of Convict Conditioning or the whole Progressive Calisthenics thing, then consider checking it out. It's also great for people who don't necessarily like specifically prescribed rigid programming (though if you wanted you could use it for that too) I've created a sort of "personal challenge" for the next 2 months -- and since a lot of my goals are skill based and/or abstract these days (and NO, many times, my goals are not S.M.A.R.T. aka specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time-bound, it doesn't mean they're "unsmart" either).   Which brings me to a favorite subject... breaking the rules!!!!!

Interview with Mike Medrano, Pro MMA Fighter and RKC Instructor

I really enjoyed talking with Mike Medrano, a recently certified RKC Instructor who is a pro MMA fighter, and also just an all around very cool guy.  His lifelong interest in lifting and athletics have helped form his unique year round approach to training.  Check out his interview here on DragonDoor.com.  In other news, click over to Instagram and see if you can play the little game going on.   I'll be curious to see how
