Pretty sure the people outside the US who read this blog are already shaking their heads in wonder at yet another display of the bizarre “USA Sport” known as Black Friday shopping. Not to worry, I am too. Being 5’3″ and not prone to excessive violence means I just shrug and look for deals online. Fortunately this year seems to be bursting with them… and unlike the “doorbuster” items at certain big box retailers, the deals and items listed below are NOT 2nd tier remakes or brands you’ve never heard of—they are the real deal.
For your convenience I have put the relevant Dragon Door banner above, but wanted to talk to you a little. There are a LOT of different kettlebells on the market today, some good some very not so good. The Dragon Door bells have consistently been the best I’ve found, and the best for a variety of clients. Just yesterday, a friend of mine was complaining that one of the popular brands (that will not be named) was making kettlebells with handles so thick that their common “starter” sizes for guys didn’t have enough room for many men to fit both hands on the handle for regular 2 hand swings – even up to the 24kg size! This won’t happen with a Dragon Door 24kg.
The reason I bring this up is you want to make sure your clients, friends, family, etc don’t have yet another barrier to learning the swing. The movement can be odd enough for some folks without an added annoyance like a crummy, ill-designed handle. And we all know that big guys (and little guys, and big ladies, and little ladies, and and and… everyone really) do fantastically well with that basic, powerful life-changing kettlebell swing. Don’t risk annoying yourself and your aspiring clients/family/friends… go with the the Dragon Door kettlebells the handles are optimal for men and women of all sizes—no question. Was looking for the little “which kettlebell do I buy” chart the other day, and have copied it below for your convenience. Remember, everyone is a little different, but this is a decent rough guide to where someone might want to start with kettlebells:
If you are… | Start with.. | And if you can, get these three kettlebells! |
---|---|---|
Average woman | 8kg | 8kg, 12kg, 16kg |
Strong woman | 12kg | 12kg, 16kg, 20kg |
Average guy | 16kg | 16kg, 20kg, 24kg, 32kg |
Stronger guy | 20kg | 20kg, 24kg, 32kg |
Very strong guy | 24kg | 24kg, 32kg, 40kg |
I know that the whole lbs to kg thing sometimes throws people, so here’s a small guide for that too:
Alright, enough math… other good deals out there. After the photoshoot with Josh Henkin and Ultimate Sandbag I have had a lot of fun learning to work with those particular implements too. Many people really enjoy the fact that the sandbags are easily adjustable in terms of weight and won’t ding their floors at home, or their bodies if something goes wrong.
Anyway those are just a few convenient ways to buy some genuinely nice presents without running the risk of being trampled by crazed shoppers with questionable senses of taste or value. Hopefully I’ll have it done in time to test and post, but later today I’m working on a kind of fun theme for a Black Friday workout. Suffice it to say there will be a few jokes in it, but a lot of intensity too! Be safe this weekend and remember no deal is good enough to justify being a jerk to others!!! 🙂
