In Praise of Consistency, an EMOM Kettlebell Workout and Programming Around Daily Activities

April 11, 2017 By Adrienne Harvey Leave a Comment

12 Min EMOM

Suddenly having access to a great outdoor training area has inspired me to step up my daily training and general activity level. Thankfully, by this age I've figured out that I can't go "all in" all the time. Recently, there's been a great series of articles by Dan John on DragonDoor.com and the first one (go read all five though) addresses the idea of consistency and … [Read more...] about In Praise of Consistency, an EMOM Kettlebell Workout and Programming Around Daily Activities

Competitive Circuit Workout for Monkey Bars, Bodyweight Exercise, and Sprints

December 10, 2016 By Adrienne Harvey Leave a Comment

Monkey Bars workout

I've enjoyed variations of this little combo for a couple of years, it's always a lot of fun and can even feel a little bit like a game.  Most recently a friend and I did the workout for 10 rounds followed by a more focused strength workout.  If you have a group, you can even perform this as an interesting relay race.  No matter how many rounds you choose, be sure to record the … [Read more...] about Competitive Circuit Workout for Monkey Bars, Bodyweight Exercise, and Sprints

But FIRST! Here's how to do Angelo Grinceri's Intrinsic Strength Training Pull Ups! One of the many reasons for this NYC trip was to meet up with some of the people I've been working with from a distance... and to talk them into podcasts when possible!  Yesterday's meeting with Angelo Grinceri was a TON of fun.  We’d already been babbling incessantly over Blue Bottle … [Read more...] about Podcast with People Magazine’s Sexiest Trainer Alive, and Inventor of Intrinsic Strength Training, Angelo Grinceri!

The Power of Simple At-Home Workouts… Example: Sandbag and Pull Up Bar

July 29, 2015 By Adrienne Harvey Leave a Comment

Home Workout PullUp Sandbag

Impatient people can click here to skip to the workout and video A pattern I've seen for years (and have also personally experienced) is that the more advanced you get, the less you really need. While there's always a seemingly human-nature-fueled thirst for gadgets and gizmos, and while new stuff can be motivating and a lot of fun (and I certainly have a first class … [Read more...] about The Power of Simple At-Home Workouts… Example: Sandbag and Pull Up Bar

Ask GiryaGirl: YOUR Questions About Push Ups, Flags, Neuro-Grips, Hip Hinges, Youngevity?

June 11, 2014 By Adrienne Harvey Leave a Comment

KB Handle Push Ups

Been meaning to compile some of these for a while.  A number of regular readers of this site send really good questions via email and they are usually things that others will want to know too.   This is just barely scratching the surface, but here we go! Q: Is it better to do push ups from kettlebell handles or should I just do regular ones? A: I wouldn’t say “better” … [Read more...] about Ask GiryaGirl: YOUR Questions About Push Ups, Flags, Neuro-Grips, Hip Hinges, Youngevity?

The World is Watching You

May 21, 2014 By Adrienne Leave a Comment

Maybe you're a fitness instructor, maybe you participate in recreational sports, or maybe you're simply taking an active role in your own health and fitness.  This makes you fairly unique these days, and most likely that will make you stand out within a given peer group.  Interestingly, many times the people who are just starting to make healthy changes to their lives are under … [Read more...] about The World is Watching You

What Do You Mean, You ‘Accidentally’ Walked 11 Miles?

April 4, 2014 By Adrienne Leave a Comment

Orlando Urban Trail

Original title of this blog post was The Importance of Play and Exploration in Fitness--Even for Grownups, but I though that sounded too academic, especially since I wasn't going to throw around any stats. When most people think about fitness, images of gym environments and machines may pop into their heads, or maybe P.E. class, or maybe even weight loss advertisements.  … [Read more...] about What Do You Mean, You ‘Accidentally’ Walked 11 Miles?

Hyperwear Hyper Vest Pro Unisex 10lb Weight Vest

March 22, 2014 By Adrienne Harvey Leave a Comment

Hyperwear Hyper Vest Pro

Hyperwear sent me this incredibly cool weight vest for review, and I'm very happy to say that it has performed beyond my expectations. First, a confession--to do weighted bodyweight exercises like pull ups I've either hung a kettlebell off of one foot, or two light light ones (one on each foot), OR as when training for the Iron Maiden Challenge (which WILL be attempted … [Read more...] about Hyperwear Hyper Vest Pro Unisex 10lb Weight Vest

TRX Training Recap!

December 12, 2013 By Adrienne Leave a Comment

Yesterday I attended the TRX STC 8-hour training course for personal trainers and other fitness professionals.  It was held at ocfsgym.com, a boxing, MMA, and fitness gym here in Orlando.  They had a really nice facility there complete with kettlebells, a boxing ring, fight cage, strength training machines, and a wood floor classroom.  We were obviously in the classroom.   … [Read more...] about TRX Training Recap!
