There’s a lot more to write, but I wanted to check in with you all a little bit – Friday night, Bud Jeffries, Logan Christopher and Noah Jeffries among other notables gave a strongman performance the likes of which Tallahassee probably hasn’t ever seen. The local paper even ran several large pictures from the event on the front page of the local section – in color! We also tried a few feats of our own before the show, and were given a lot of interesting background/theory/etc. about strongman shows, the feats, and all kinds of nifty stuff.
Saturday was the official first day of the workshop – and we started out with special brand of warm up recharge that was Bud’s own combination of qigong, mobility drills, neurological drills – really neat stuff – some was familiar, some really new to me. Bud also talked a lot about his own theory of training – much of which was an expansion of the info in his new book I Will Be Iron – I really liked some of the kettlebell programming combinations, many of which will be used this week in modified versions for my small group class, and for my own training at home. Extremely powerful ideas here – and not just for big guys that bend stuff in their teeth either. Logan Christopher did a comprehensive introduction to kettlebell juggling, and then after lunch Logan talked to us about mental/psychological strategies for lifting, training, sticking to an eating plan, and also how to better motivate ourselves and our clients. Towards the end of the first official day of the workshop, Frank DiMeo led us through some cool bodyweight warm ups and drills which could be easily adapted for all fitness levels and ages. Don’t let that phrase fool you – this stuff is challenging for everyone. Again… look out small group! We all had delicious grilled burgers, salad etc at Laurel’s house – and you’ve never seen so much food disappear so quickly.
I have tons of really cool video of various highlights, which will be posted when I have the chance to edit them. And yes, there’s video of the thing I mentioned on facebook about having a 16lb bowling ball dropped on my abs from various heights. LOL.
