Recently, Jen Sinkler (RKC and all around super cool person) and John Du Cane made a video showcasing a qigong workout for Experience Life Magazine (which is also super cool by the way). If you aren’t familiar with qigong, or even if you are, this video is a great intro or review. Don’t be fooled by the slow movement, some of this can be intense in an interesting way. I’ve been a fan of qigong and tai chi since 2000 and have practiced it in some capacity (sometimes more seriously and diligently than others…) ever since. Qigong has been absolutely crucial to my ability to cope with the stress and uncertainty which come with the whole “entrepreneurial lifestyle.” It has also helped me learn to really concentrate. If you like it, consider finding a teacher and incorporating it into your morning warm up, exercise warm up, or as part of an active recovery program. In some circumstances, I find the meditative mental state is more restful and productive for me than taking a nap. Qigong and tai chi are my favorite forms of mindful exercise, and I was very surprised to find myself in a similar mental state when I began to train with kettlebells a few years ago. Anyhow – give it a try! That means you too, Mom, I know you read this! 🙂
