As far as we know – and we both checked, Laurel Blackburn of Tallahassee Kettlebells and Boot Camps To Go and I are the only 2 female RKC Level 2 Instructors in Florida. So of course we have to meet up from time to time, and get a whole lot of fun stuff going on. This always seems to involve tons of coffee in various forms (yes, I brought my stovetop espresso maker), dark chocolate, feats of strength, multiple computers, cameras, and lots of grilled steak. Today was no slouch of a day – getting an early start at the gym – gotta say I always covet that cargo net and other various obstacles and just massive square footage Laurel has at her disposal. Seriously – so yeah, small group, not only am I bringing back some more very serious kettlebells, I’ve also got some new ideas for some additional challenges over the next few weeks.
Of course, I had to share some of my bounty of cool products I’ve been reviewing – we’ve been putting these to task for sure – and so far the clear front runners have been Protos Foods Ostrim Ostrich and Beef Jerky (her hubby and son like it too) and the new sample package of Perky Jerky that arrived the other day from my new friends in Colorado. Both are really good low calorie, very flavorful sources of protein, and I really recommend that you give them a go. Both companies also have turkey varieties which are really good too. Ostrim can be found at your local or online GNC, and Perky Jerky (enhanced with Guarana) can be purchased from www.perkyjerky.com We also nearly fought over a package of Protos Foods other very interesting vitamin chocolate Gimme candies product… LOL. Yes this was after getting out the venerable formidable BEAST kettlebell for some swings.
It’s really just too much fun to swing a kettlebell that you outweigh by only about 20lbs. No, small group, not bringing home a 48kg Dragon Door Beast kettlebell THIS time. Maybe next time. Or – if the UPS guy needs some punishment I may just… no, that’s too mean. LOL. Anyhow, unlike the first attempt at beast swinging at the St. Cloud Institute of Human Performance this past summer, I didn’t get pulled over into the ground. Really pleased at how it went actually – and I plan on trying a couple more very heavy swings tomorrow. We also experimented with the gymnastic rings some more – holding L-sits, and doing pull up variations etc. There was also time for a new favorite activity: heavy kettlebell cleans. I hadn’t cleaned anything heavier than a 28kg kettlebell, so it was fun to try, and do well with the 32kg! Yes, small group, I am bringing one of those home for us- along with various other purchases.
Tomorrow we’re going to shoot some video at the gym and in the kitchen – among more of our sometimes manic braniac nerd sessions. Laurel even enlisted some of my old goth/punk skills as we put some bright pink streaks in her hair. Good times! We also have had some great discussions about CK-FMS which is super helpful as I will be turning in my case study video very soon. Looking forward to completing that challenge, but its so great to discuss these fascinating topics with someone who has had a lot more experience with CK-FMS and it’s benefits. If you’re training with me and haven’t yet had your Functional Movement Screen (FMS) contact me immediately and we’ll schedule you for early this week. Speaking of this week, my skype coaching schedule is filling up rapidly for the next week, so if you were wanting to schedule a call or need me to check your form on any of the basic RKC 6 exercises, send an email (see below to contact me) to schedule your call time.
New recipes and workouts coming soon, I promise – just wanted to let you know the fun stuff going on!
