Beyond Organic chocolate bars – glad I got a photo of 2 of them together – they disappear so quickly that this is a somewhat rare photo. They come in small boxes of 12, which might sound like a lot to you – this is an illusion. Each bar is 1.2oz or 35g which is both a blessing and a curse – on one hand, if you are a very good friend, you can snap one in half and there’s a 100 calorie treat for you and your lucky friend. Or back here in the dog-eat-dog-cruel-mean world it means that when you eat the whole thing yourself (which you certainly will at some point) you’ve only ingested 200 calories. The further good news is that within those calories you’ve consumed some very nice probiotics and 1000mg of Omega-3s. For the curious, the included probiotics are Bacillus coagulans GBI-30 6086 which support digestive and immune system health. Besides, just because you can’t taste them, doesn’t mean they aren’t in there working their little bacterial hearts out – except of course, bacteria don’t have hearts. These bars are certified organic by CCOF and the USDA. They have also passed the stringent tastebud test of my own Mother – who I was not entirely aware had a liking of chocolate to rival my own. We didn’t have sweets much in the house when I was a kid – so I was super surprised to see her get VERY excited about the fact that I tossed a couple of these bars in with Mom and Dad’s Christmas presents this past December. Wonder if Dad got any of that at all?! Also – the toasted flax seeds offer up a nice crunch as well as the Omega-3 content – one of my friends has a crafty toddler who says she likes to eat the bars to “count the seeds.” Right… chocolate for ummm LEARNING yes, sure. But this also illustrates that even though these are dark chocolate bars, they are not bitter and the “dark” level is such that chocolate snobs like myself and todders can agree that this is one tasty little bar – even if we are totally lying about counting the flax seeds.
