Here’s a list of great articles on Dragon Door that you may have missed – there’s some oldies but goodies in there as well as some new items of which regular readers of GiryaGirl.com will certainly be interested. Many are from people I have met in some capacity and/or have trained. ALL are from people who I really look up to and who set a great example in the RKC community.
In no particular order:
- Practice – Honing the Skill of Strength
This small but incredibly important article is currently a BIG favorite – you must practice – this isn’t step class, people, there’s a learning curve. The kettlebell drills are something you can work on perfecting/evolving/etc. your whole life – like a golf swing or martial arts. Kettlebell training isn’t about showing up to one intro class or workshop and then thinking “ok I know everything I need to know” then mindlessly banging out sloppy reps while pop music is playing and you’re thinking about errands. This kettlebell stuff is SERIOUS business if you want to safely get real strength and physique results. - How to Use Kettlebells to Develop a Kung Fu Grip
An oldie but goodie from 2006 – this is for the benefit of my friends/clients/campers who’ve wondered at their tired hands and forearms after some of our workouts. It says “Kung Fu Grip” you KNOW I had to include it on this list. Also – those friends of mine who sporatically attend “Ladies Nite” at the rock climbing gym know that kettlebell training significantly increases the strength and endurance of our hands/forearms. This article explains why and has a handy list of drills to expand on the intrinsic grip training which happens when you swing kettlebells on a regular basis. - The Ten Dollar Spend
Great article from Andrew Read, head of Dragon Door Australia (congrats on the new website: www.DragonDoorAustralia.com) discussing how to adapt and work around injuries – with plenty of personal examples. - Kalos Sthenos – The Get Up

Great article from Zar Horton, Senior RKC, and the origin of the “simple, not easy” catch phrase you’ll hear from me a lot if we hang out in real life. Again stressing the need to practice the basics and work towards perfection in those basics. EVERY rep. - Learning the Pistol from the Ground Up
Gem from Franz Snideman, Senior RKC about getting started with and mastering this impressive and powerful exercise. The foot diagram is worth the “price of admission” alone – if you aspire to the pistol or just love the exercise, please read this article. - How to Fix the 2 Most Common Programming Mistakes for Kettlebell Fat Loss Workouts
