Really enjoyed interviewing Tom Davin of 5.11 Tactical for Dragon Door a few weeks ago at the San Diego RKC. One of the things that I noticed right away was Tom’s incredible enthusiasm for both what he does professionally and personally within his own life. This is a pattern I keep seeing in people who are experiencing success in their life and/or business—a genuine enthusiasm, curiosity, and a need to share. Even if you aren’t in a tactical or fitness field, we can all stand to learn more about leadership. So go read the interview 🙂
In other news, a nearly spontaneous Primal Move session happened yesterday – and that great “playground feeling” was in effect – we all did so much “working out” while having fun and exploring movements that we didn’t realize over an hour and a half had passed and THATS why we were so very ready for lunch. We even invented a few new games then had a bizarre and challenging race partner/team race. You’ll be hearing more and more about Primal Move from me over time. If you are interested in becoming a certified Primal Move Instructor check out the current list of Instructor Certification Workshops. I’ll be leading the workshop here in Winter Park as well as the one hosted in Ohio at Dave Clancy’s legendary gym. All these workshops are led by incredible people though – so no matter what location you choose, it’s sure to be a winner. Likewise, if you’re in Florida and curious about Primal Move for your own personal fitness, I am in the process of organizing a 2-3 hour workshop for general interest and a whole lot of fun. If you’re someone who’s a little reluctant to work on flexibility/mobility/stability issues because you find it boring, then Primal Move may really be a sustainable and fun answer for you.
If you haven’t already, check out Jon Engum’s new ebook (paperback coming soon, not sure when…) Flexible Steel. It contains a LOT of info that normally you’d only experience at a workshop…. including the infamous “Tactical Frog” and plenty of excuses to go to the beach to get the upper hand in your flexibility training. The thing that makes this book both stand apart from typical mainstream flexibility information is that the flexibility achieved does not detract from your strength or stability. It very much follows in the lineage of Pavel’s Relax into Stretch and Super Joints, but in a very interesting new direction with tons of new info too. The progressions are well planned, and it’s easy to follow along with Jon Engum’s recommended routines. Plus there’s a picture of our pal, Aleks Salkin, getting “roadkill flat.” Literally something for everyone.
