Update on the Blog Contest –

June 23, 2011 By Adrienne Leave a Comment

Just a quick statement – I’m both honored and surprised to be in the DragonDoor.TV blog contest – even MORE surprised to still even be a going concern. I’ve slowly built this blog/site for over a year, enlisting friends to help with the logo design, general design (traded a printer and synthesizer for that from an artist friend). In the process, learned how to use both the Drupal and Word Press content management systems, brushed up on my html and css. It’s been loads of fun posting recipes, articles, and reviews about the things I do with training, eating etc. Besides, it was a good excuse to dust off that underused BA in Computer Science. A few weeks ago one of my posts was featured on the popular site FemaleMuscle.com and the traffic bump from that alone was significant, staggering and seriously encouraging. The fact that people read GiryaGirl.com and have said that they like it is still really novel, since so many of the things on here are very personal.

I started talking to one of the other contestants (Brandon) on facebook after he tagged me in a post about the contest. Then I checked out all three blogs. Began to experience MASSIVE traffic influx from the contest and DragonDoor.TV which was thrilling. I started putting together a promotion plan, social media blitz, as well as stepping up my presence on the forums and blogging more frequently. More people have started looking at the blog, interacting with it and becoming site users than EVER before – I’ve even got some new client leads because of it. Incredible buzz has been created!  Brandon and I started a short dialog about doing some collaborative blog posts/interview trades in the future. Since he also has a Crossfit background and is able to successfully blend that with his RKC training, he has a unique perspective that would be neat to talk about on here. (I still need to finish up the video editing from the interview trade with Philadelphia based MMA trainer Rob Fusco (trains fighters using a whole lot of science, RKC and Steve Maxwell training strategies) – we did a really cool skype “interview trade” a few weeks ago.)

After a while and after he started falling behind in votes, Brandon started promoting my blog on twitter and facebook. Tonight it was brought up that this might be unfair teaming up, so I quickly asked Brandon to remove the posts, and to stop promoting my blog – which he has. More than anything I like to do what’s right. A fair and square win is the only kind that really counts.

The RKC community and what that it stands for is extremely important to me. I eat, sleep and breathe this stuff. I study and train as hard as I can with the TOUGHEST strength coach (Tim Shuman RKCII) in town. The manual is on my night stand and has been close at hand since I returned from the Orlando RKC weekend this past October. I referenced it just this afternoon to make sure nothing was left out when teaching some new kettlebell trainees the snatch. Sharing these principles with others is often the highlight of the day, empowering my clients to achieve their fitness goals using this seriously effective training method is exciting. So, the last thing in the world I want to do is to upset anyone or be unfair. I will admit to being driven, passionate, strategic, tenacious, and adaptive. Yes, I keep an eye on the contestants’ time zones, I mentally track their posting patterns, times, hypothetical schedules and strategies. I have been sleeping 4 hrs at a time to keep as Gary Vaynerchuk says “Crushing It” via social media.  This contest has lit a fire under me and inspired a LOT of progress with the blog, a staggering influx of new traffic, ideas for future projects, collaborations with new friends and so much more. So of course I am committed to keeping this a fair contest.

I don’t really care to discuss anything past that other than, if you haven’t already voted, please do so and…

May the best blog win!
