The little things... last night I noticed that the "season" on my cast iron skillet has become amazing. Better than teflon - so slick, so even. If you cook with cast iron regularly you start to form a relationship with it - and the fact that this is Granny's hand-me-down skillet only makes that more powerful. Considering what this particular skillet has been through in my … [Read more...] about The Strangest Things Can Be Cause for Celebration – Cast Iron Skillet Discussion

Wednesday’s Wicked Circuits – Kettlebell and Optional TRX Workout
Another drizzly day yesterday, similar to the one which inspired the Hanging Gardens of Babylon Workout some weeks ago. Which the participants really seemed to enjoy - one even requested "more workouts like that one!" For whatever reason, my group seems to like circuit workouts that require them to move through a few different "stations" We bring out a large assortment of … [Read more...] about Wednesday’s Wicked Circuits – Kettlebell and Optional TRX Workout
Strength Trumps the Scale…
Welcome to a tale of 20-20 hindsight!! A decision has been made, and those of you who know me in real life might be pretty happy about it. I'm only 5'3.5" tall and hover around 123-128lbs normally depending on the time of day, how much water I've chugged etc. Most people's weight will fluctuate throughout the day - I have been known to have variances as large as 5-6 lbs in … [Read more...] about Strength Trumps the Scale…
End of Orlando RKC – Sunday Part Three – The Love of Friends, Heavy Shadows, Victory, Resolve.
It was such a great feeling knowing that 90% of the people I invited to participate as "victims" for the teaching test portion of the Orlando RKC showed up - but what I didn't know is that many of them stuck around to watch the grueling conclusion... the dreaded oft-talked-about-in-hushed-tones GRAD WORKOUT. This workout must be completed in order to become an RKC - even if … [Read more...] about End of Orlando RKC – Sunday Part Three – The Love of Friends, Heavy Shadows, Victory, Resolve.
A New Iron Maiden!!! BIG Congratulations to Valerie Hedlund!!!!
She did it!!! Pressed, pistoled and did the pull up with the 24Kg kettlebell. I got the first two, but the pull up bested me at the RKC Level 2 this past July. According to all the internet video I saw, she not only did all three, but made them look easy. Needless to say we want to interview her on GiryaGirl.com ASAP. HELLO can you say INSPIRING?!?!?!?! This makes Valerie … [Read more...] about A New Iron Maiden!!! BIG Congratulations to Valerie Hedlund!!!!
Meal Time….
Started a little controversy on Facebook after posting a whole lot of "slightly bombastic meals." I've been privately and politely called out by a few people who I have a lot of respect for, but who follow different dietary strategies than I do. So... I've been trying to come up with the best possible explanation - for somewhat intense meals I've been posting... Like this … [Read more...] about Meal Time….
Farmers Walks, Swings, Snatches, demos and ROPE CLIMBING!!!
Another total mish-mash of a workout today - but it seems to work for me, at least in terms of maintenance. After the descending ladder strict tactical pull up day this past weekend (13, 12, 11, 10, 9...3, 2, 1) it was good to get back to pulling and climbing a little today as well. Loading, unloading, and carrying tons of kettlebells (378.4lbs to be exact) around etc only … [Read more...] about Farmers Walks, Swings, Snatches, demos and ROPE CLIMBING!!!

Variation on Program Minimum
We have more beginners at the Friday 6pm class here in Winter Park, so its a great day to focus on the basics (which is really something on which EVERYONE should be focusing). Since everyone could stand to review and continue to progress with their basic kettlebell swing and get up, I designed a very basic plan using a variation of the Enter the Kettlebell program minimum as … [Read more...] about Variation on Program Minimum
