Workout Wednesday: Workout Videos, Two Kettlebell and Bodyweight Workouts & Skill Training For Active Rest

Even with all the rain lately, I've managed to write (and do) quite a few really fun outdoor workouts

While working out in a gym or indoors (the living room here is pretty much a gym at this point) is nice, especially in the summer, working outdoors is always a special treat, even in the 90-something degree NC summer. It cracks me up though, since moving here how everyone likes to remind me that "oh well it gets hot here too!"  Yeah well, kinda... but it's been nothing like the past two brutal summers in Florida with the unrelenting humidity (heat AND humidity even at 3AM) and even more unrelenting tourists. Needless to say I can handle the low 90s... not even a problem. There's some semblence of seasons here, I'm very very grateful.

I've always enjoyed trying and making up little non-stop sequences with kettlebells and calisthenics. A few years ago I used to teach and certify others in a program that very heavily focused on creating these types of sequences and part of that has always been in my training. Depending on the exercises chosen, this can be a real brain teaser too!

Podcast with Kirsty Grosart, World Class Handstand and Bodyweight Strength Expert, GMB Coach

I've noticed Kirsty Grosart's achivements and extreme skills for years online. It was a ton of fun to get her on the podcast! Admittedly, I'm being super-self-serving by trying to get a whole bunch of tips to improve my handstand skills, but since I'm sharing it with you, that makes it ok, right?

This super fun episode is linked below for online listening via iTunes, Stitcher, and now fancy slideshow version on Youtube! (Which do you enjoy most? Please tell me in the comments section at the bottom of this post) I even made you show notes again. And again, let me know if that's something you enjoy or not (it's a lot of work, so if you don't care, please tell me!)

Catching Up With Angelo Gala, and gearing up for the 2nd ever PCC Workshop

First of all, I wanted to make sure you had the link for RKC and PCC Team Leader, Angelo Gala's interview that went live today on Dragon Door.  Angelo is a super neat dude.   I first met him a few years ago when he was an assistant on my team as I was attending my first RKC-II Workshop.   Angelo ended up helping me a whole lot, and I was super inspired by his athleticism and balanced abilities.  Plus it seemed like he could nearly tie himself into knots with a balance of extreme strength and flexibility you just don't usually see with men outside the Cirque Du Soleil.  So it was no surprise years later to see Angelo really doing well at the first ever PCC workshop, and soon becoming a Team Leader.

Recently while I was in Boston visiting friends at GiryaScope, and leading a small Intro to Primal Move Workshop, Angelo agreed to meet up.   Amber Lee graciously took some pictures of this first ever "PCC Team Leader meet up" in the park:

The Wanderer... Kettlebell and Bodyweight Workout

It's no secret that I'm nuts about the Convict Conditioning series of books and DVDs from Dragon Door - and of course totally hooked on kettlebell training too.   Here's an example of a fairly (you can adjust the difficulty to meet your own needs) advanced workout that involves a great deal of variety.   The real fun is derived from it's variability - it can adapt to whatever step you're working on with your bodyweight exercises.

Of course, always warm up with some joint mobility exercises and a few kettlebell swings.

This workout was originally designed for a moderate kettlebell and rather heavy kettlebell.  Choose wisely when considering what that means for you.

Part 1:

Three Rounds Of:

A Traveling Kettlebell Workout with Variety!

Typically for a Friday we had a couple people missing from class - and since I am not one to mope, I saw this as a fun opportunity to do something a little different.   Around the neighborhood I've found some fun places to do things like fingertip hangs, pull ups, clutch flags, etc. and what I personally like to do sometimes is to tote a moderate to light kettlebell around for a few blocks for swings, and sift in some powerful bodyweight drills ( hurrah Convict Conditioning ) too.   This is also a fun thing to do at a park that has a parcourse or if it doesn't you'll need to stretch your imagination.
