New Podcast! Adrienne and Co-Host Dr. Chad Eldridge Discuss Two VERY Cool Recent Events! Get the Scoop!
It's been a BLAST to add Dr. Chad Eldridge as the official Co-Host of the GiryaGirl.com Podcast (at least that's how it will be until we can come up with a new name/platform etc. for it.) This episode is a little shorter, but packed with info as both of us attended different, but extremely cool events last weekend. I set a timer during the recording (it's silent, thankfully) so that we would get close to equal time talking about both of these events. I was a judge for the very cool K.E.T.T.L.E. PRT competition in Chicago, Illinois. This unique event is the creation of Senior RKC Robert Miller and RKC Team Leader Katie Petersen. I will be writing a very detailed article about this event, but for a sort of sneak preview, listen to this ! Chad went to a FRC (Functional Range Conditioning) certification at the Academy in Austin, TX. You'll want to hear about the details of this fascinating system. I'm pretty darn intrigued!

Ask GiryaGirl: I Only Have One or Two Kettlebells, What Else Can I Do? What is Your Skincare Routine?
Q: I only have one, it's the one I started with so it's a little light for most of the things I've been practicing... what do I do until I can order more later this month?
A: Last week's RKC blog from Josh Henkin brought up some ideas that are really great if you have or haven't already heard them. They're extremely valuable for instructors, enthusiasts, and especially people who like to work out at home or when they just have access to one or two . As we all know, a good quality like the ones from will last a lifetime, but they are not cheap. Personally, I think it's a great idea to just get one good for a while until you're ready to step up--instead of getting a crummy cheap that chews up your hands. Josh's article has all kinds of great ideas for when you're working with limited resources... or even if you have nearly pairs of every size as I do, for those times when you just want to take one to the park, the beach, the lake, wherever and get a complete workout with just one .
Some highlights from his post with some additional commentary:
Those of you who were following along last Weds/Thursday onand Youtube know that the journey out to the first ever Certification ( ) Workshop in the UK was a little bit.... challenging. The weather plus "waitng on equipment" had me scrambling to get canceled flights rebooked... then rebooked again in order to make it to Newcastle, England in time to sleep at least a LITTLE before having to help lead the workshop the next day. Fortunately even after hearing "there's nothing else we can do" several times and jumping up the chain of command food chain, "there's ALWAYS a way" prevailed and I arrived victorious (though 10 hrs behind my original scheduled arrival). My secret to lack of jetlag: a "life of chaos" (I kinda hate routines and normality in any and every form... that and the occasional exuberant workaholic marathon--of my own freewill), sheer stubbornness, medallion status, and all carry-on luggage.
First off, if you haven't already checked it out, Explosive Calisthenics (sometimes referred to by enthusiasts and superfans as Convict Conditioning Vol 3) is now out in both paperback and eBook form! While the eBook might be convenient in some ways, like the fact that you wouldn't need to wait on or pay for shipping, the paperback is just really a while lot of fun. It's a full color large format book just like the original , and Vol 2 and chock full of inspiring photos of the progressions to some of the most impressive skills on the planet... including several that scare the heck out of me (back flip, front flip!). No disrespect to anyone, but the back flip and front flip guys probably impress me the most out of anyone pictured in the book. You'll even find a couple of photos of some people in there you may recognize as well! But as we all know, while the photos may be cool, the info is what we're after and that is in this book by the TRUCKLOAD!
The other fun item to share today is an article and bodyweight workout featured in Experience Life Magazine - Jen Sinkler wrote the article and she quotes the Kavadlo bros and myself in it - AND there's a workout with little pictures that you can do this weekend. (Let me know how it goes).
One of the things I most enjoy doing is conducting written interviews for. This has put me in touch with such a variety of inspiring people, and has even made lasting friendships too. Being able to share their stories is an honor that is not taken lightly. The other great thing about the interviews is they often give me ideas about challenges I'd like to try. Sometimes, as in the case of this past week, a good 2/3 of the Thursday small group challenge was from an interviewee (will share that workout AFTER his interview is live) mainly because it sounded like such a great idea and I wanted to see how it would do with my training partners and friends.
You can find all the interviews by clicking right here, by the way... and I will be talking about specific interviews more often from here on out, because these people are SO inspiring and awesome. There's bound to be someone's story in there that will resonate and/or inspire you.
Similarly, yesterday I was VERY much inspired by an extremely interesting interviewee to finally try the SSST (which when you say it over the phone to your training partner is apparently really confusing sounding... HOW many Ss??). Those who know me well, know that thetest is still a mental challenge for me, and something that I actually sort of dread in a recert situation. Seriously, even now. Its much better since they updated the weight classes and added the (which is in my group of "most favorite ") - For women, before there was this massive jump from doing the test with either the or which as my friend and I discussed last night there are worlds, nay UNIVERSES of difference hiding in those 4 kilos... heck there's universes of difference hiding between the and if you're doing 5 minutes of snatching!
