Rings of Power by Mike GIllette

Rings of Power by Mike Gillette Cool new book from Mike Gillette about Ring Training for all fitness levels. Being on this shoot with Mike was like working with a real live action hero! (And I got to put a cinderblock on him too!) Mike knows his stuff and shares everything you need to know for his versatile go-anywhere ring training.  Full progressions of every exercise, workout plans, and all the know-how to take the training as far as you wish. Good stuff, and yes, that's me on the left side of the cover  :)

Strategy, Bacon, Espresso... Catching Up with Rolando Garcia III, NYC Trip Part 4 PLUS Neuro-Grip Max Reps Video!

A trip to Manhattan isn't complete without a brainstorming, strategy-focused visit with Rolando Garcia III...

Lunch and Strategy with Rolando Garcia III

The day or two before meeting up with Rolando Garcia III, I'd arrived at Irving Farms (recommended coffee! I brought my friend a bag back and she's still raving about it) a little early to meet up with Phil Ross and Nykki Ross (we were plotting out the podcast etc for the next week). I suddenly realized that the 3 hardboiled eggs and avocado I'd eaten for breakfast in the cafe of the hostel were long gone and the "egg plate" at Irving Farms sounded way too tempting.

One Hand Pull Up Demo

First off, I want to introduce Sebastian Müller, RKC Team Leader over in Germany.  I was able to meet him at the 2013 PCC in Sweden (which was so epic that we are all still talking about it...).  Anyway, Sebastian has some absolutely great ideas about training, and this most recent he has contributed to the RKC Blog is certainly no exception!  While the kettlebell get-up is both loved and hated (and some people even oscillate between these two feelings DURING the exercise!) it's power and teaching potential cannot be denied.  If you are a beginner and a get-up hater, then take a few steps back and just work on the component parts of it.  Seriously -- taken as all 7 steps together, as a beginner a few years ago I was totally bewildered and overwhelmed by it.  Now? I can do them in my sleep (well ok I can do them before that necessary jolt of morning espresso).

The value of really learning and honing the get up is spelled out in detail here in Sebastian's article:
Five Things The Turkish Get-Up Teaches You About Life

So... you may have noticed (I hope) that I do not participate in the YouTube program of making $ from commercials on my videos.  Instead I've always opted to leave you useful product links in the video descriptions, mention products and things that I like in the videos which I may also be promoting in some capacity.  I only promote things I think are cool and that you will probably enjoy too.  SO you can look forward to NOT having to see some boring mainstream tv type commercial before any of my videos EVER.

Strategy Wednesday: A Visit to the Floatation Tanks...

[Warning, this is not a normal post about exercise or food.  It gets a little weird and silly in places, so if you don't feel like reading it, no hard feelings, there will be more talk about exercise and food coming later in the week.]

Whenever possible, I try to take at least a small part of each Wednesday (at least an hour, hopefully much more) for redirection, goal setting, strategy, assessment, and if at all possible some form of relaxation/reflection.  Sometimes, if things are not too hectic (and that's cause enough for reflection...) I'll even take the whole day.

Right click, or click and save the link below so you can listen at your computer with ease, or transfer the MP3 to a portable player of your choosing.   Still am considering creating a regular "show" but am weighing the logistics and practicality against listenership.  Feel free to let me know how you feel about podcasts, MP3s, when/where you listen, and in what preferred format (see comments area).

Cold Remedies.... or Leveraging a Cold as an Excuse to Do Strange Things

Managed to catch a real heck of a cold, which doesn't happen often at all.  This is one of those that makes me thankful to be working from home anyway this week.  BUT, it's also a really good excuse to concoct things, and well I've always been a fan of that.   Of course I've already used the cold as an excuse to visit The Salt Room again (click here for a past blog post about that) where I very unceremoniously half-awake-half-asleep feverdreamed some universally motivational ideas better suited to someone with much MUCH more personal charisma.   This did also seem to have a great effect on my general breathing too...
