Here's How My Mom Gave Me a Huge Health Advantage

It's no mystery that I like to think, and this means I really like thinking about thinking, and figuring out "why". Day after day after day I see a lot of stuff written and complaining about women's poor self image and how it puts them at a disadvantage for living healthy lives.  These negative mental patterns are also a direct threat to self esteem, implementing their own self-care and maintenance, and most of course, any "weighty issues." Lately, I've been trying to figure out why so many people were having hang-ups with certain things.

No School Like the Old School - A Relevant At Home Workout from 1904?!?

This morning, Master RKC, Geoff Neupert (Author of the highly effective Kettlebell Burn series of programs) sent out a very interesting little email.   Well, apologies the email itself was more intriguing than anything.  So intriguing that I looked past the annoyance of actually having to cut and paste the url of the blog post—on any other day his emails have clickable links.   Anyhow, his post was a short comment on a video from Slate which I posted below:

The Ultimate Rebellion: Rejecting Punishment and Deprivation

Something had been bugging me for a VERY long time.  Now, I've figured some of it out, after the ideas from some amazing conversations with people I consider to be some of the biggest minds in fitness have congealed.   On the left side of the desk is this little heap of paper bits: brainstorms, workouts I've written for clients, myself, or the small group, a few receipts and SD camera cards sneak into the pile, but whatever.  Sometimes things get scrawled on the back of receipts.   Anyway, as I'm working on other, but very related writing assignments, the jumbled stew in my head occasionally makes some sense, and ideas are jotted down for later.  Well a couple days ago, the right neurons connected.

Create and Become Your Own Ideal

So... a lot this week about photoshopped pictures on the covers of women's mags, and now this whole thing with a tv show that I don't watch calling someone (who looks pretty normal to my warped mind) "too muscular." Of COURSE it's one of those shows totally targeted to women.  Now, before I reach for my aluminum foil lined hat and start screeching about conspiracies of women keeping other women down and the constant flood of backhanded complements bombarding women (and men too) in the popular media, I want to say - its good for you to like being you.

There's no one else in the world exactly like you - and that's a great thing.   Focus on being the best you that you can be.

Women's Issues.......

It's sometimes hard for me to talk about this stuff without sounding like a ranting conspiracy theorist, or triggering very emotional discussions - which sometimes are frankly painful to watch as they unfold on the internet.   There is/was a photo circulating around Facebook the other day (imagine that!) and the photo itself was very cool - featuring an attractive 'plus sized' model in a artistic nude.   What was uncool was the giant, babbling caption someone had attached to it - which was probably meant to be a positive body statement, but - typically - contained a bit of a backhand to anyone who didn't fit their particular feminine ideal.  The other thing that drove me
