Please Check Out How to Improve Your Posture with the RKC Kettlebell Swing by TWO Senior RKC Instructors!

There's a new post on the RKC Blog today from two Senior RKC Instructors about how the correctly executed kettlebell Swing can help with a very modern problem... poor posture!

This used to be just "nerd problem" but now it applies to EVERYONE... all this seated, sedentary work is havoc on posture. Posture is a giant part of the overall body language that we communicate on a daily basis. People sometimes forget that I'm "petite" because of good posture. Good posture can also help you exude the kind of confidence that prevents problems (my friends in law enforcement call this "officer presence" but it applies to everyone as well).  So, if you'd like to be better respected, less prone to injury, and possibly even side-step annoying people causing problems then it's time to tune up that posture!

As we age, posture becomes less about aesthetics, and more about injury prevention and continued independence. In other words.... we should all be paying attention to our posture. I discovered something by accident at my home office and it's something you may want to replicate in some way. When I sit at the desk there's a long hall to my immediate right. At the end of the hall is a tall mirror. If I turn my head to the right I can see exactly how I'm sitting. I simply do NOT slump at the desk now and haven't for as long as I've lived here (6 years). If you need to break the habit, give the mirror trick a try. And everyone should check out Beth and Jay's article too...

How to Join the 1%... of Kettlebell and Calisthenics Strength

I forget what business summit I was attending but for good or for ill my behaviors as an iconoclast, contrarian, and overall weirdo were being verbally encouraged by the speaker.

Raised Hands Push-Up Variation

It's fun to finally be commended for going against the tide, of swimming upstream, and NOT doing what everyone else is doing. The speaker was saying that the much maligned "1%"--at least the part that worked for it, and didn't just inherit it... or those that inherited it and kept it--were there because of BEHAVIOR... namely rare behaviors. It was pretty obvious, pretty quickly that these "rare" behaviors were the same across many different fields, not just business, marketing etc. The main thing was DO the WORK.  Focus on the basics, and DO THE WORK.

Strategy, Bacon, Espresso... Catching Up with Rolando Garcia III, NYC Trip Part 4 PLUS Neuro-Grip Max Reps Video!

A trip to Manhattan isn't complete without a brainstorming, strategy-focused visit with Rolando Garcia III...

Lunch and Strategy with Rolando Garcia III

The day or two before meeting up with Rolando Garcia III, I'd arrived at Irving Farms (recommended coffee! I brought my friend a bag back and she's still raving about it) a little early to meet up with Phil Ross and Nykki Ross (we were plotting out the podcast etc for the next week). I suddenly realized that the 3 hardboiled eggs and avocado I'd eaten for breakfast in the cafe of the hostel were long gone and the "egg plate" at Irving Farms sounded way too tempting.

Podcast and Advanced Kettlebell Tutorial Video: Visit to NYC Part 3 - Checking in with Master RKC Phil Ross and Nykki Ross

There's so much material to share with you from the NYC trip that it's frankly kind of overwhelming at the moment...

Learning a crazy advanced kettlebell drill from Phil Ross, Master RKC

However, seeing as the cat is out of the bag (oh Facebook...) on the fun and informative podcast with father-daughter super-duo Master RKC Phil Ross and Nykki Ross, I wanted to share it here ASAP.  To be fair, I didn't tell them that I usually upload to the podcast site then wait until iTunes grabbed it before doing the promo.  It does tell me though that they're subscribed to the podcast, and ultimately that's what we want!!! :) But, even if you've already listened to the podcast linked on this post (scroll below the video), keep reading here... especially since there's a video of Phil teaching me a really wild and advanced (try only at your own risk!) kettlebell drill called the bottoms-up crescent Swing.

Ask Giryagirl: More Tips to Fix Your Hardstyle Kettlebell Swing [VIDEOS!]

Ask Girya Girl

Every now and then, friends and former clients who've moved away will send along a video of their kettlebell Swing.  "Does this look right?!" or "What am I doing wrong?!" etc. And before we even get to the fact of the different legitimate styles of kettlebell swings (I practice and teach the RKC hardstyle kettlebell Swing, but there's also a GS "Girvoy Sport" style of Swing, CrossFit etc.), there are tons of very questionable videos out there online.  The questionable videos are often aimed at women and that of course drives me bonkers.  So, with very little prompting it's easy enough to get me to run outside and shoot a video or two to help people who might need a few pointers to really dial-in their hardstyle kettlebell swings.
