YES! Neuro-Grips are BACK!!

Neuro-Grips are FINALLY back in stock, honestly, I was pretty bummed out that they were not available for Christmas gift giving.  But they are back now! Ever since I first tried the rough prototypes (one was even slightly not level) back in 2013 or so, I've used them in my training.  And yes, if you go to the Neuro-Grips page you'll see someone very familar in the demo photos. :)

Here's an unboxing video of Dragon Door Neuro-Grips, along with putting a friend of mine on the spot. Thankfully he was a good sport and did a great job.  Don't let him (or me) fool you, these things require a LOT of control, proprioception, strength etc. Start easy, even if that means getting comfortable with knee push-ups, putting one leg out at a time, and Neuro-Grip planks. Honestly, those are great drills anyway even after you can do more fancy stuffl. I've become fond of Neuro-Grip burpees for a short set or two, just for the shock factor! :)  Definitely not for beginners... don't do it!!!

Anyway I'll will be making more Neuro-Grip focused how-tos for you, but in the mean time...

Competitive Circuit Workout for Monkey Bars, Bodyweight Exercise, and Sprints

I've enjoyed variations of this little combo for a couple of years, it's always a lot of fun and can even feel a little bit like a game.  Most recently a friend and I did the workout for 10 rounds followed by a more focused strength workout.  If you have a group, you can even perform this as an interesting relay race.  No matter how many rounds you choose, be sure to record the amount of time so that you can see how you improve the next time you give it another try.

BONUS Podcast Mini Episode: The SCC-HKC Combo with Adrienne Harvey, Senior PCC and Mike Krivka, Master RKC

Bonus Episode!

This is the first in a series of 4 bonus episodes loosely focused on topics related to the SCC (Strength Calisthenics Certification) and HKC (Hardstyle Kettlebell Certification) workshop combo that Mike and I will be leading on June 11th and 12th in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  This will be the first ever combo workshop weekend for the SCC/HKC, and if you register for both, you'll save $, if you register for both before April 30th, you'll save even more.  Mike's facility, CrossFit Koncepts is absolutely ideal for BOTH workshops and I really look forward to teaching there again.

Podcast with People Magazine's Sexiest Trainer Alive, and Inventor of Intrinsic Strength Training, Angelo Grinceri!

But FIRST! Here's how to do Angelo Grinceri's Intrinsic Strength Training Pull Ups!

One of the many reasons for this NYC trip was to meet up with some of the people I've been working with from a distance... and to talk them into podcasts when possible!  Yesterday's meeting with Angelo Grinceri was a TON of fun.  We’d already been babbling incessantly over Blue Bottle coffee, lamb salads, and Mast Brothers sheep’s milk chocolate–which was surprisingly and delightfully sheepy. Like sheep’s milk cheese and chocolate all at the same time. But when the conversation turned to grilled octopus I knew it was time to hit record… what follows is a rollicking conversation that traverses multiple subjects around more adventurous forms of health and fitness. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Keep watching for Angelo’s upcoming book with Dragon Door Publications, Intrinsic Strength Training.  View full post here to see the Instagram embeded videos from training with Angelo!

A pattern I've seen for years (and have also personally experienced) is that the more advanced you get, the less you really need. While there's always a seemingly human-nature-fueled thirst for gadgets and gizmos, and while new stuff can be motivating and a lot of fun (and I certainly have a first class collection of workout goods) it's important to remember that we can do a whole lot with less, or next to nothing. I can remember a time when I thought I needed specially timed meals, protein shakes and a whole gym full of machines and treadmills to be in shape. Of course the funny part was I always felt like I was still missing something--no matter how many "for women" fitness articles (and watch out, guys... there's plenty of goofiness in your media too) I read or how many times I tried the polite pretty workouts contained within.
