In case you're thinking of boiling eggs this weekend, I wanted to put these posts together for you. Eggs are awesome anyway, so any excuse to highlight these nutritional powerhouses is a good one! Hardboiled eggs are a favorite grab and go snack (even at the airport--look for them at the more "gourmet" snack stands and shops). Just a little salt and pepper and they're fabulous, but if you have a few minutes, a few ingredients, and a ziplock bag, you can make some fairly fancy deviled eggs without too much effort (or cleanup). I love deviled eggs so much I even have a special plate for them now...
Had WAAAAAAAY too much fun this morning at Lake Meadow Farms here in Central Florida. They had twelve adorable baby goats running around that we had a good laugh at before going in to do some serious food shopping. Not to mention there was also an adult goat who REALLY REALLY wanted to be on, even though she did have her moment of fame, it wasn't enough and she actually smacked one of those cute little baby goats out of the way! (glad they're tough at any age... geez)
Having interviewed Max foron at least two occasions, somewhere along the line we realized that we have a shared love for cheese. While many people are not consuming dairy right now, I wanted to know why Max was as passionate as ever about cheese. I know why I am, but wanted to hear his reasons. Through the MP3 file below, you'll discover that answer, but also hear us as we tell you what cheeses are in our refrigerators RIGHT NOW. We share easy practical meal solutions, strategies, the importance of high quality foods, cooking at home, and some fairly funny stuff too. We're particular about how we like eggs cooked apparently, and I was relieved to find out that I was not alone in a few of these argueably almost-neurotic approaches.
Anyway, right click, or click and save below so you can listen at your computer with ease, or transfer the MP3 to a portable player of your choosing. And let me know what you think of the occasional- I'm considering creating a regular "show" but am weighing the logistics and practicality against listenership. Feel free to let me know how you feel about podcasts and MP3s.
- Oldie but goodie: Max had not yet been promoted to Master RKC, but still very relevant interview.
- Recent interview with Max about his promotion to Master RKC & how he used his training knowledge to win big at the regional Highland Games.
Train with Max!!!
It was a good weekend - I hope yours was too! My parents were in town and we had a good time talking about food, etc. and trying one of the new local restaurants which had some incredible things on the menu - regular Girya Girl favorites like roasted Brussels sprouts (they had paired them with carrots and parsnips!!!!), an incredible fritatta, and even a little "Faleo" on my part - since the three of us shared a (are you sitting down) specialty pizza. Now, before you freak out, I probably actually needed the carbs - I'd gotten pretty close to the "madness range*" a few days prior and this was actually a good thing. You may or may not
As a child I hated hardboiled eggs... sure, they were fun to decorate at Easter, but eating them? EWWW NO WAY!!! Why? Well, sad to say, but my family had the habit of cooking them to death - creating those chalky yolks with the sulfurous black/green edges. Oddly enough, I would eat hardboiled eggs from restaurants, or when overseas (just thinking about the delightful orange yolked eggs in Germany made me hungry right now), but didn't think that this would be possible at home. As if the restaurants had access to some kind of special, elite egg cooking technology. Shame on me.
