Rings of Power by Mike GIllette

Rings of Power by Mike Gillette Cool new book from Mike Gillette about Ring Training for all fitness levels. Being on this shoot with Mike was like working with a real live action hero! (And I got to put a cinderblock on him too!) Mike knows his stuff and shares everything you need to know for his versatile go-anywhere ring training.  Full progressions of every exercise, workout plans, and all the know-how to take the training as far as you wish. Good stuff, and yes, that's me on the left side of the cover  :)

Here's What I Think About Dan John's New Book, The Hardstyle Kettlebell Challenge!

Dan John's The Hardstyle Kettlebell Challenge Book Cover

Was so proud to see that Dragon Door chose to include my endorsement of Dan John's book (out on eBook TODAY, paperback is coming in about 6 weeks) on the promo page and within the book itself. Here's how I feel about the book and how much I would recommend that you check it out if you are even vaguely interested in kettlebells!  If you love working with kettlebells or are an instructor, then this is pretty much a "must have". While it's easy to dismiss the HKC skills as for "beginners" that's a big mistake. Every time I revisit these solid basics, my training and my students' and clients' training improves too.

ANYWAY here was my response to the pre-release version of the book (which from what I can tell is the exact same as the ebook that went live today!

Much like the HKC itself, Dan John’s new book drills down to the absolute essentials of kettlebell strength and conditioning. Ultra practical, the HKC book includes all the necessities, how to use them, plus how to create programs for nearly any fitness level or athletic need.

While some may think that the three exercises of the HKC, the Swing, get-up, and goblet squat can’t possibly be enough, after 7 years as an RKC, and 6 as an RKC-II, Dan John’s HKC book has inspired me to simplify my training, and that of my clients—with great results. The “basics” are so important to Hardstyle kettlebell training, and this book doesn’t just make the case, it shows you exactly how to implement these crucial basics for any level, too.

I would recommend this book for kettlebell instructors and enthusiasts at all levels.

Doing 500 Kettlebell Swings & the Red Delta Project Podcast

First off, it's always a huge honor to be a guest on a podcast, but especially on Matt Schifferle's Red Delta Project podcast yet again. It's been a while since we've chatted, but we made up for lost time quickly. Check it out on iTunes: Exploring Freestyle Workouts w/ Adrienne Harvey - The Red Delta Project Podcast or his website.

fun with a 40kg Dragon Door Kettlebell
40kg of fun...

One of the things I mentioned in the podcast is that I'm still adjusting my training to balance with the occasional endurance challenges that come with the 3-5 hrs a week of Systema training that's now in the mix. Matt was interested to hear about that, but also was curious about the workouts I've been doing here in the backyard which include giant rocks, throwing stars, throwing knives etc. along with the usual kettlebells and calisthenics.

Drone's Eye View and Breaking Down the Get-Up ...Even if You Already Know It

Recently I've had the privilege of adding a couple of local personal training clients to my schedule. Since moving here I haven't had a chance to really start up a small group with a local gym yet, and will probably continue to hold off on that for a few more months.  Still finishing up the book after all (my fault since I keep adding things to it...it's becoming a tome).

Austin Adventures with the SCC and HKC - Plus a Workout and Mobility Stuff!

Ever have one of those trips where you come back and you know you've changed in some way? This was definitely one of those!  And I mean that in a good way.  There was no shortage of adventure and excitement this past weekend in Austin, Texas.  In fact for one of the more action packed parts, I am only half-joking about exaggerating it a little and writing it up as a screenplay... I've already cast Danny Trejo as one of the villains.  Long story short, we are unstoppable.

Tao Health and Fitness, SCC, HKC Austin Instructors and Host

Back to the SCC and HKC... I led the SCC on Saturday, and Senior RKC Paul Britt led the HKC on Sunday.  The folks that showed up to each workshop (and some showed up for both) were extremely impressive not only with their physical abilities, but with their professionalism, experience, and understanding of the human condition.

BONUS Podcast Mini Episode: The SCC-HKC Combo with Adrienne Harvey, Senior PCC and Mike Krivka, Master RKC

Bonus Episode!

This is the first in a series of 4 bonus episodes loosely focused on topics related to the SCC (Strength Calisthenics Certification) and HKC (Hardstyle Kettlebell Certification) workshop combo that Mike and I will be leading on June 11th and 12th in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  This will be the first ever combo workshop weekend for the SCC/HKC, and if you register for both, you'll save $, if you register for both before April 30th, you'll save even more.  Mike's facility, CrossFit Koncepts is absolutely ideal for BOTH workshops and I really look forward to teaching there again.
