Rings of Power by Mike GIllette

Rings of Power by Mike Gillette Cool new book from Mike Gillette about Ring Training for all fitness levels. Being on this shoot with Mike was like working with a real live action hero! (And I got to put a cinderblock on him too!) Mike knows his stuff and shares everything you need to know for his versatile go-anywhere ring training.  Full progressions of every exercise, workout plans, and all the know-how to take the training as far as you wish. Good stuff, and yes, that's me on the left side of the cover  :)

The Power of Working on the Kettlebell Basics, a Workout and a Video (mostly about food)

Before leaving for NJ/NY last week to train with Master RKC Phil Ross, I wanted to make sure to make the absolute most of the training time up there, so over the past few weeks I had ramped up both my strength endurance activities, as well as generally the high intensity cardio (heavy swings, sprawls*, Ultimate Sandbag drills like rotational lunges, and things that nearly have me falling on my face like a whole bunch of kettlebell snatches then a quick lap around a track x4 etc).

GiryaGirl Newsletter - 2012 Edition!

A lot has been happening in a very short period of time - but that's exciting - I hope that your 2012 is off to a great start, and that you're still speeding ahead to your goals and keeping up with the challenges of the new year.  Here's a little of what's been going on recently - and twitter friend, Tracy shares her experience with kettlebells, weight loss and the 21 Day Kettlebell Swing Challenge.   She isn't a trainer or fitness pro - but has still achieved amazing results with kettlebell training - goes to show - if you're dedicated and ready to work hard - you can do it too!

Attention Orlando Area Martial Artists and MMA Fighters!

I led a HUGE intro to kettlebells class last Tuesday night for my new friends at The Jungle MMA and Fitness here in Orlando - by far the most fun and most productive intro class ever. The spirit and dedication of the intro group was unmatched!! If you weren't already convinced that we need to work together more and more, check out this fun video from Dragon Door TV:

In addition to the Tuesday night class, I will be offering one on one training as well as small group training - more details as negotiations continue. Looking forward to working with you all at The Jungle MMA and Fitness

Variation on Program Minimum

We have more beginners at the Friday 6pm class here in Winter Park, so its a great day to focus on the basics (which is really something on which EVERYONE should be focusing).  Since everyone could stand to review and continue to progress with their basic kettlebell Swing and get up, I designed a very basic plan using a variation of the Enter the Kettlebell program minimum as presented by Dan John on a forum (will try to remember which one!).  Here's what we did:

Joint Mobility Warm Up then....

In 10 minutes as many rounds as possible with PERFECT form, or striving towards it - this is never a race:

"That Long Lean Look YOU LOVE" - minor rant... and more of my story

Have seen this phrase for years, it even fooled ME in the past... fooled me into wasting time, money, and still not having "the answer".   La la la... do these little safe non-offensive, non-making-you-actually-sweat exercises that won't "bulk you up" etc and you'll have "long lean muscles".  Ladies... it's a LIE.  Plain and simple.
