Rings of Power by Mike GIllette

Rings of Power by Mike Gillette Cool new book from Mike Gillette about Ring Training for all fitness levels. Being on this shoot with Mike was like working with a real live action hero! (And I got to put a cinderblock on him too!) Mike knows his stuff and shares everything you need to know for his versatile go-anywhere ring training.  Full progressions of every exercise, workout plans, and all the know-how to take the training as far as you wish. Good stuff, and yes, that's me on the left side of the cover  :)

Monkey Bar Monday - Exploring Bar Hangs For Time [Video]

There's a very cool (and very recommended) progression in Convict Conditioning Vol 2 all about hanging from one or two arms (along with towel hangs which are amazingly challenging) to develop grip strength, and I've been doing bar hangs at home about every other day usually for a minute or more. Current PR is 1 minute 30 seconds, and while I could have gone a little longer, I had a lot of typing to do that day and didn't want to risk it. As it was, my fingers were still a little numb after that session. A really fun way to get more time on the bar than you may thing is possible is to challenge a training partner (who is fairly well-matched in ability) to a hang contest. Sometimes a few of us will see who can stay in crow longest, etc. too, and with enough rest and finger stretching you could even have both of these "grudge matches" in the same session. Definitely make sure your wrists and fingers are warmed up for both the hangs and the crows though, and it's also a great idea to repeat gentle wrist and finger mobility and stretching throughout a session like that!

Happy Monkey Bar Monday -- with Monkey Bar Alternative! [VIDEO]

Hope you had a great 4th of July weekend! I've been meaning to make more #MonkeyBarMonday videos, and when I drove by the park between errands realized that some people seem to have today off, so there were actually quite a few kids and families on the monkey bars. It was more than enough of an excuse to avoid any 5-year-olds and their "Mommy, why's that lady on our monkey bars? And what's wrong with her hair?" situations. So, remembering a super fun (and pretty challenging) monkey bar alternative drill from Jon Bruney's Neuro-Mass: The Ultimate System for Spectacular Strength (pull-up bar walk pages 172-173 where you'll find some fun photo examples from Matt Maher and myself)

Happy Monkey Bar Monday! A Video and More Exciting News...

After having put in a whole heck of a lot of hours these past few weeks on various projects (for others mostly... you may have noticed the blog posts here have been a little few and far between... sorry about that) it was time to GET OUTSIDE before it gets annoyingly hot here in Florida.  Well... it was kind of really bright out there today, but I didn't let that stop me, especially since they were going to be testing the fire alarms in the building, and I'm not keen on loud, shrieking alarm noises at random intervals!  After finding a decent, non-time-restricted parking space in a nearby fun mini downtown area, I put in a few hours at one coffeeshop, before walking over to lunch, then into a couple of stores... then realizing that I was only a couple blocks away from a really nice, quiet little park that has some great monkey bars, fireman's pole, etc.  Then all the caffeine and braincells came together for one brief moment of insight... and the hashtag

was born.  Seeing that there were no children to jeer at the "weirdo lady" on the monkey bars talking to her phone, I got brave and decided to do the intro while hanging from the bars and holding on to the phone.  It's very silly, and neither I nor the phone were harmed in the making of this goofy video:
