Upcoming Progressive Calisthenics Certification (PCC) Workshops, Carry Over and Putting the "FUN" in Functional

Group Photo from the First Ever PCC in Gothenburg Sweden

First of all, I'm really pleased to announce that I'll be helping Al and Danny Kavadlo at two upcoming PCC Workshops!   One in April in Minneapolis, MN (there's still time for you to register... don't miss it!) and the other in one of my favorite cities in the world, NYC!   While a sizeable discount still is in effect for the NYC one, there's a limited number of spots available (even though the workshop isn't until June!) so I'd suggest that if you're interested in going, you should try to sign up asap.   Below are direct links to the workshop details/registration pages:

It's an absolute joy to help Al and Danny out at these workshops, their enthusiasm is infectious and there's always some new little game-changers I pick up from them whenever we're in the same general area.   At some point about 30 seconds into the first day of the workshop, the mind-meld happens and you'll see amusing things start to happen like Al explaining something, while Danny and I demonstrate it from 2 different angles, or from 2 different difficulties.   Many times we don't rehearse that beforehand, a

The 2nd Ever Progressive Calisthenics Certification Workshop Recap, Logan Christopher Podcast, Mental Stuff

This past weekend was the 2nd ever PCC workshop, and once again it was a fantastic experience.   The attendees were incredibly accomplished and really soaked up and applied everything we threw at them.   As always it's a sheer joy to support and help Al and Danny Kavadlo--their enthusiasm is infectious.  The volume of the weekend helps to justify some pretty awesome dinners too.  At one point I remember telling the group that they had literally done 2-3 WEEKS worth of clutch flag and human flag practice in one day -- and Al was quick to add that some of the participants had also made 2-3 weeks worth of progress at that time too.

As at the first ever PCC, many people were able to achieve some very advanced moves for the first time--even moves that they had been working towards for a long time.   I'm talking about first muscle-ups, levers of all varieties etc.   The complete stats in that regard will probably be made public pretty soon too.  I'll be sure to link you.

In the excuse column of making a "tradition" I've recorded a little post-PCC recap video in the middle of my favorite non-restaurant place in St. Paul, MN.  It's a little park smack dab in the middle of the Mississippi river - the bandshell there is a fun spot for tai chi and the soft grass is great for headstands/handstands even though I didn't do any (did plenty this past weekend, thanks... including standing on my head with NO HANDS for what seemed like an eternity... yes I was braced on the wall!!).   Anyhow, here's the video:

It was super awesome that Logan Christopher could attend -- a couple years ago, I attended the two-day Super Human Training workshop he and Bud Jeffries have created.   Amusingly I make an appearance on some of their DVDs flipping a tire and pushing a sled!   That workshop was also a great introduction to some of the specialized mental training that's one of Logan's many specialties.
After the workshop, Logan shared a really cool mental technique that immediately boosted my performance in handstand pushups (remember... this was after 3 days of helping at a workshop, and some fairly heavy-duty demonstrations!).  Logan's mental-imagery techniques took me from two tired HSPU reps to 5 solid, non-max reps.  Honestly, they were easier than ones I've done at home and I probably could have done more...  After a few days of rest I may set an all time PR (which would need to be a minimum of 12 HSPU)  Let's hope I can do that AND catch it on video for you.
In the mean time, here's a podcast that Logan and I recorded last week - it's so fun that it went live today -- and while you're there checking out the podcast, be sure to poke around Logan's cool website, Legendary Strength.  If you like what I do, I'm pretty sure you'll like some of the neat things that Logan is up to -- he's got such a wide range of strength and success related interests.   And... well he can pull a firetruck WITH HIS HAIR!!  Mad respect there.

A "Meet the Instructors" Style PCC Video! The Next Progressive Calisthenics Certification Workshop is FAST Approaching!

Here's another fun video from DragonDoorTV that lets you meet the instructors—Al Kavadlo, Danny Kavadlo, Steven Low, and me! Really glad that the ultra-skilled Dragon Door TV Team of Amanda and Spencer were able to get that one-arm-flex-hang shot in one take because those get difficult pretty quick! Anyway, check out the video and if you are interested in becoming a PCC Instructor, or if you just want to take your own calisthenics training to the next level as a serious enthusiast, then sign up for one of the upcoming PCC Workshops right away. We have one coming up this month and would love to see you there! I've been working on my skills so that I can be as helpful as possible... and I know the Al and Danny are constantly honing their skills and coaching skills too. While the video is super exciting, it still can't capture the full excitement, enthusiasm, and extreme learning that happens at a PCC.

Got Plans Next Weekend? A Celebration of Movement in Boston is Planned!

A celebration of movement in Boston next weekend! No prerequisites required for either event, but do NOT hesitate on registration, limited-registration, small classes on purpose. and the Primal Move Fundamentals class oversold last time by one so we had to actually kick Amber Lee OUT so that there was room for everyone.

We're kicking off Saturday June 29th, 2013 from 9AM-12PM with a Systema Fundamentals class with Fred Mansfield, Jr.—an accomplished martial artist who has studied Systema with Vladimir Vasiliev and others since 2006.   This 3 hour introductory seminar will focus on the basics of self defense and the core principles of Systema: breath, movement, relaxation, structure.  Other topics covered will include striking, escape from grabs/holds, and moving in a frantic crowd.

On Sunday June 30th, 2013 I'm leading a 3 hour Primal Move Fundamentals class, which will give you a solid intro and understanding of the system and how to use it to enhance your workouts, sports performance, and life! Rumor has it that some RKC leadership might be showing up to this class too. Bring your best questions as brains-to-be-picked will be close at hand. Register while you still can!

Notes on Primal Move Ocala, Organic Food, and a Fairly Evil Workout

Primal Move Logo Become a Force of Nature Instructor Workshop TrainingYesterday's Primal Move workshop in Ocala, Florida was a TON of fun. We had a smaller group than some of the other workshops I've led before, but that ended up being just fine given the size of our location. Everyone who attended was very engaged, asked wonderful questions, and worked together as a great group. I'm curious to see what they come up with in their own training, and that of their clients.
