Backyard Shoulder Mobility and Generalized Kettlebell Mini Workout

After seeing Ryan Pitts wield that crazy Leviathan Mace yesterday I knew that I'd have to get in at least a little mace work today. I also needed to work on my shoulders some too after a 10 round wicked pairing of heavy kettlebell swings and pullups (among other things... I need to share that workout with you this week...) the other day.  The weather was so nice that I decided to try out this particular tree branch that seemed perfect for ring training--and it was!  So I headed to the backyard with my Stronger Grip short mace, a very inexpensive set of gymnastic rings, a standard wood dowel, and a 24kg kettlebell...

So, the mobility sequence was as follows (or just watch the video below which I scraped from Facebook Live--it's live, it's real, and of course in the middle of it the neighbor decides its time to get wacky with what sounds like a circular saw).

I did three rounds of the following:

Strategy Wednesday - Workout Wednesday...

Strategy Wednesday

A "Strategy Wednesday" has been long overdue, so I've blocked out a few hours today for it. Basically it's a reassessment of what's going on, what I can do better, and often what I can drop or discontinue. And... this applies to my lifestyle as a whole, not just business or entrepreneur stuff... but also fitness and food.  Much to the annoyance of some, I see all of this as essentially the same. Many of the "rules" and strategies of one are useful in the other. It's really all the same thing in so many ways, and I use this idea to justify my wide-ranging interests! :)

Fun Calisthenics Grip Training Challenges!!

Honored to be on the PCC Blog again today! :) Grip Strength for Greater Triumphs is my 16th post over there, and it's still always exciting.  If you are visiting because of that post, then thank you very much for clicking though.  There's a video below that demonstrates a drill that I hinted about in the blog post.  It's a fun way to add a little bit extra grip and coordination challenge into a pull-up training session or a circuit.

The idea below is best if you're already able to do 5-6 solid pull-ups as the "hard part" is more jumping up and negotiating the unusual grip, and switching around.  You'll also notice that the side NOT holding on to the towel will pull harder.  If you're working toward a one arm chin up, you can also add this drill into your training (using a chin up grip) and then over time grab the towel lower and lower with one hand. It gets much more difficult VERY quickly... we could even say exponentially more difficult if you have a longer towel!

It's Almost Conference Time! More Info Soon!

More info soon, but there will be a lot of fun livestreams happening on Facebook and youtube!  Don't miss out! Watch this space as well as Dragon Door's Facebook Page.  I'm also going to share some fun rebroadcasts later as well.

For now, check out these fun videos I made for you earlier this week (Burpees theme is unintentional... I dunno why that happened!)

Pull-ups, Pull-up grip variations, PLUS Shoulder and Thoracic Spine (Upper Back) Mobility

Since pull-ups and shoulder mobility are inextricably linked, intertwined, and occasionally even inhibit each other, I thought it might be a good idea to have these two videos (and link to Senior RKC Paul Britt's awesome blog post too... keep reading) together.

One Hand Pullup

First things first...

For people who can do a comfortable 3-5 pull-ups, it can be a fun challenge to (I got this idea from Zach Even-Esh, author of The Encyclopedia of Underground Strength and Conditioning) mix up the grip on your pull ups and chin ups on each set.  For example, let's say you're doing the following random example circuit:
