Backyard Challenge! Using Everything in a Sequence

Crazy Backyard Challenge! Earlier today I was training someone with kettlebells and had also brought out a very cool pair of custom made paralettes from Ryan Pitts of Stronger Grip. They are excellent for l-sits as well as slightly raised push-ups (we even sometimes do push up walks up and down the two of them). Later I set up the slackline, then decided to get out the throwing knives and throwing stars, and then the Neuro-Grips, and, and... realized I had managed to drag out a whole bunch of stuff into the yard.  Before bringing everything back inside, I thought it might be fun to create a couple of non-stop sequences that used nearly everything in some way, and that kind of traveled from piece to piece.  So here we go!

I should also share the workout from earlier which was inspired by Zach Even-Esh's awesome book, The Encyclopedia of Underground Strength and Conditioning. My new client is already extremely athletic, and the ideas in his book are great for the current situation. Especially since they really work on not just strength, but power.  I love working on power, but that's a dicussion for another time. Short version: being able to generate power is super useful for all kinds of things in life.

A Short But Fun Underground Strength Inspired Exercise Break... After an Adventure!

It's been an interesting weekend... getting a lot done, maybe a little too much because as the sun started to go down today I found myself wanting to go outside and play for lack of a better term.  Some may refer to this as a "workout" but considering what I did and how fun it was I think it was more like a slightly more grown up version of playing in the yard.  Unfortunately, it got a little too dark outside for me to shoot a video of it. Thankfully with the timing and the holiday weekend, I had a big chunk of the parking lot to myself. I am NOT the weirdest neighbor here by a long shot so it would have been ok if someone saw me.  Many of the people in my neighborhood are active in some way--we have a guy in his late 70s who regularly practices Convict Conditioning style push ups on the railings, there's someone across the street who does sledgehammer training, plenty of kayakers, stand up paddleboarders, cyclists, etc around here so my antics are pretty much par for the course--except for when I climb things and leave little footprints in unlikely, oddly far-from-the-ground places...

Ohio Adventures: Primal Move, Restaurants, Bulletproof Coffee, Tire Flipping, Fun

It was an odd realization to be this far along in one's own adult life and realize that Ohio was a place I had never been. With some reservation, I had originally scheduled this particular Primal Move certification workshop for Dec 1st at Dave Clancy's rockin' facility Blue Chip Athletics / Buckeye Kettlebells. But the thought of being somewhere North of the Mason-Dixon line after November always gives me pause, especially if things like skis aren't involved.
