Rings of Power by Mike GIllette

Rings of Power by Mike Gillette Cool new book from Mike Gillette about Ring Training for all fitness levels. Being on this shoot with Mike was like working with a real live action hero! (And I got to put a cinderblock on him too!) Mike knows his stuff and shares everything you need to know for his versatile go-anywhere ring training.  Full progressions of every exercise, workout plans, and all the know-how to take the training as far as you wish. Good stuff, and yes, that's me on the left side of the cover  :)

Down by Twos... a Kettlebell and Bodyweight Workout

This is another fun "benchmark" workout that definitely let us all know where we are with our conditioning.   Amusingly, the Primal Move warm up, Convict Conditioning Trifecta, the sequence and then the Primal Move cool down took about 40 minutes.  According to my Armour39, during that 40 minutes, 409 calories were destroyed.  That wasn't the goal, but it does explain why I eat so much sometimes.  Anyhow, here's what happened:

Using Google Maps, I measured out a 30 yard straight run in our park, then grabbed a selection of kettlebells, so there'd be choices!

A Workout with an Old Friend... The Kettlebell Walking See-Saw Press

Since the past few small group workouts have been pitched towards a PCC direction (working with the progressions on many of the main moves), it was time to bring out an old but challenging friend... The kettlebell walking see-saw press.   This often humbling drill is a good way to get some extra mileage off of a pair of lighter kettlebells which moght have been collecting dust.  The concentration and coordination required by this drill does mean it is best reserved for intermediate/advanced kettlebell swingers with healthy shoulders.  Check your ego at the door however as these normally easy presses become very difficult quickly.

Here's what we did on Tuesday...

Tearing It Up on Tuesday - Kettlebell and Bodyweight Workout

First off - make sure you keep everyone in Boston in your thoughts.  It was so hard to watch this happen, especially somewhere which has so recently shown me such great hospitality.  Amber Lee of GiryaScope was right near where it happened, and I am just so thankful that my close friend and fellow RKC was safe and able to help others.  You can read her experience here and I hope you can find a way to help as well.  Online we can all help by being supportive of others and setting an example of being strong and emotionally responsible adults in our social media interactions.

A Kettlebell Workout, a Busy Week, a Visitor, and MORE!

It's been a great week, but as you can see from my personal lack of article posting here, a BUSY ONE too!    The good news is there's tons of new content on the way for you very soon.   In the mean time, here's what's been going on:  I switched up the schedule for Kettlebell Small Group - the now very exclusive class I teach - and this was a great thing to do because we had a much better attendence AND since no one had to really crush their schedule or commute to get here, the energy and enthusiasm was even HIGHER.   Of course, it also helped that the brains behind PrimalBurgher.com and soon-to-be-HKC-candidate, Janelle was visiting Florida this week too.   She's been able to join us for a couple of classes, and also a fun impromptu session at my favorite park last weekend.
