Orlando HKC Experience - Testing, Making People Nervous (oops), and More! (Part 3)

Finally back to the last installment of the Orlando HKC Recap! We further worked on the Get Up, with a troubleshooting section.  People who felt like they had a problem somewhere with their get up volunteered to demo and have the HKC participants and instructors help them improve their form. It's fun to watch this learning process even as a helper AND it's a great time to pick up or refine coaching cues and tools. Of course, the most important thing is to make sure that everyone stays safe. If someone is going heavier than normal, or isn't feeling quite confident with a new kettlebell, it's important to learn how to spot someone in the get up.

Zac Zech and the HKC Fort Collins Experience

Many people have asked about the HKC, and one of my clients is planning on getting her HKC soon. While I know a lot of people who participated in the program, I haven't, and I feel like I've really missed out. Since I can't fill in the details of what you may experience if you attend an HKC workshop, newly certified HKC, Zac Zech was kind enough to write an account of his very recent experience. Also note that Zac was able to train for this intense worshop from essentially a "remote" location, far away from any other RKC or HKC certified instructors. He used sheer will, creativity, some driving, and technology to make up the difference.

Franz Snideman, Senior RKC, Interview - kettlebells, leadership, motivation and more

I am here today with Franz Snideman, Senior RKC, who was kind enough to take the time to answer a few questions.  Franz, how did you first discover kettlebells?

I first discovered kettlebells through my identical twin brother, named Keats Snideman.  He’s an RKC from Arizona.  I have always been into progressive new stuff in fitness, and in 2002, my brother said, “You’ve got to try these things called kettlebells.  They’re amazing.”  I bought a couple.  I was horrible at them.  I had no idea how to use them, and then in the fall of 2002, my clients and I found Pavel and we said, “This is the guy that we need to go learn from,” so we hired him.  We drove up to Santa Monica for a two hour private session with him at the Santa Monica beach.  It  literally changed the entire course of my career.  Pavel told me about his RKC certification, which was then probably only in its second year.  I think it started in ’01, maybe the end of 2000, so it was fairly new.  I took it in April of ’03 and the rest is history.
